I think if I could set my eyes on one, and be able to buy the gear box, it would be fairly easy to make one. Anyone know where to buy gear boxes that would reduce the RPM from 2000 to 540? I am sure it could be done for far less than the $2,800 price tag I have been quoted. I was thinking you could use the loader valve to run the up-down ram and the chute rotation. Any thoughts on that?

How about something like this, but a 3pt with a removable PTO??

When I said $400 I forgot about the gear box. It would take a 3.73 gear box set in backwards to drop the 2000 RPM to 540. The smallest compact gear box I can think of is a Post Hole Digger but the problem there is the 90 deg angle between the input shaft and output. The lift would be easy with a $99 Hydraulic cylinder, hoses, and some lower 3 point arms.

The gear box would be the obstacle. I am sure somewhere like Surplus Center has one.

I have been pondering a project like this for quite some time. I would like to mount my new 66" snowblower on the front of my machine. I was thinking of making a sub frame and running a chain sprocket off the rear PTO to transfer the power to the front. The subframe would have some pillow block bearings and a shaft running through it. Building a 3 point on the front and having just a lift cylinder would finish off the whole package.

This has been done by several members here. A quick search found me two examples.

Thanks for those Ductape!
I haven't been around here for some time and didn't do a search but that looks exactly like what I was trying to describe. The only drawback I see is ground clearance but in the winter I don't really go "offroad" too much.
I was thinking that I would make the subframe/power transfer as a separate entity to the three point so I could still use the three point for other implements that don't require power.

We front mount snow blowers with an independent hydraulic drive system. We use the Loader valve for the Lift and Chute rotation functions at part of the package. It works well as long as the both spools of the valve are 4-way, which is the most common on modern CUTS. Some of the older models have a 3-way spool on the bucket side of the valve. Just check the valve first.

My thoughts also went straight to a hydraulic drive motor with quick disconnects like a skid steer.

This may work for people with auxiliary remotes but I don't have any and I wonder what kind of flow would be required to drive a hydraulic motor that is equivalent to 25-30 HP @ 540 rpm. I am willing to bet that the small (8?) gpm my tractor gives me is insufficient and I would have to add a hydraulic pump and reservoir run off the rear PTO anyways. This becomes very costly and warrants a look back at the rear to front driveshaft idea.

MichiganIron-- Can you give us a little bit more details on how your system is connected? Better yet any pictures?

I am interested too. Ours puts out 11.6 gpm to the remotes. Would that be enough??

Read what he posted again:

The system used to RUN the blower is INDEPENDENT of the tractors system (it is powered from the PTO).

We use the Loader valve for the Lift and Chute rotation functions at part of the package.
Only LIFT and CHUTE ROTATION is done from the tractors hydraulic system.
