Block heater?

I installed a circulating heater/pump type I purchased from NAPA for my ISEKI/3 cyl diesel...and up here in Southern Ontario Canada where it gets bitterly cold every winter.... also to this being a gray market compact tractor with very little space to install a normal type frost plug block heater.... was not an "option" for me...I think the heater/circulating pump cost me around a $140.00 cdn but well worth it ....the all brass fittings I think cost me more than double the $$$ cost of the heater/c/pump and my own labor installing it.... and believe me I took my sweet time it was no way near a 15 minute installation job as problem after problem surfaced....but in all..... worth the effort... seeing a rebuilt starter for this tractor and replacing the ring gear would cost plenty more than the total cost of everything mentioned above..... and only if I could get one or the other ??? I'd love to be able to afford a good brand name tractor....but you know what I've found out after buying this tractor last year and many, many inprovements this past summer including new paint.... I find this is a very strong older built compact tractor and I do believe and always will that cast iron tansmission castings e.t.c is the best and strongest verses any aluminium type of the newer tractors whatever brand a person chooses....AMPA :):):)

Why are you yelling? FYI - WHEN YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE YELLING! :)

Maybe gazoo's hard of seeing or just has cap lock on because he accidently missed the tab key, but the context doesn't look like yelling to me ??? Your answer, on the other hand, does look like yelling ??? MikeD74T

The answer to his question is, "No" or perhaps "NO!" depending... ;)

My 2305 did not come with a block heater. I asked my dealer to install one and he argued with me. He said he doesn't have one in his tractor and told me to save my money. The owners manual states it is for much colder temperatures then Saint Louis, Missouri typically receives.

The JD online sales manual shows the heater and battery maintainer prices as "See Dealer". This tells me they are definately not factory equipment per se, but may be added by the dealer prior to final delivery in all such circumstances where they are used. Unless of course the end-user adds it him/herself.

Everything has block heaters up here and in -35 a lot wont even turn over much without one...we even have oil pan heaters on the cummins 14 liters as well. The heaters that plumb into a hose are'nt as good as the ones fitted in a coreplug .They're easy enough to install depending how many external engine parts are blocking access to core plugs but theres usually an easy one somewhere...!

I have a JD 5055e and need to install the block heater. The dealer said to pop the frost plug out but I dont know what the frost plug looks like. Anyone have any pictures of this?

I just installed a block heater in a JD 855. While I don't know your situation, the frost plug in the 855 was located near the starter. It took a 1/2" square drive extension pressed into the frost plug. Look carefully, you should see the plug with the square recessed fitting. A light tap on the drive extension was all that was necessary to seat it. You will need a breaker bar and in all likelihood an extention on the breaker bar. I had a 6' piece of water pipe laying around which I used. Without the extension, it was a "no go".
Don't forget that once the plug is free, you will lose coolant unless you have drained it beforehand. I estimate about 1-2 quarts was what I lost because I did not drain it before I started. The block heater requires a 1-3/8" socket to install properly. Use some teflon tape on the block heater when you install the heater. The quarters were pretty tight on the 855 and I had to remove the exhaust pipe to gain access on the removal/install. Good luck.

The CUT's seem to not come with them, dealer add ons. So if you are buying a CUT, used or new, ask for it as part of the deal, and they will do it.
