I'm not him but the writer needs to go back to school. A torque converter is not the same as a clutch in a manual tranny.
A clutch cannot multiply torque. A torque converter pumps oil, a clutch doesn't. Strike one.
Until GM dropped the 8.1L, they shared the tranny with the Duramax Diesel. Computer told the tranny what to do with both. Nothing new. Why use an Allison on a 6.0 or smaller that didn't need it? Strike two.
Low stall rate torque converter. You can get billet ones for the T-1000 that drop it by 300 RPM. But why if you want to pull loads? Strike three.
Claims it is a one piece casting from block to slip yoke. Too bad the writer didn't provide a better batch of pictures/drawings. Bet the tailshaft housing bolts on. So if the tranny comes apart from the front, it has seals or gaskets/sealants at that end. If it come apart from the rear, tailshaft housing has a seal and a gasket/sealant. Places where they can leak. It may be stiffer but it still has places to leak. And now it looks like Ford's new one has a much bigger pan gasket area to seal. Longer the pan, more chance of it leaking due to temp changes.
I wish Ford good luck with the new tranny but as they admit, they have to best the T-1000. Only time will tell on that.

If a 6.2 V8/6R140 F250 4x4 could average around 17 or 18 highway mpg, I would strongly consider buying one in a couple years. That is as long as it proved to be a reliable, capable combo.

I don't know why Ford is so against a spin on external filter. Sound like a pain in the rear to service this thing. I don't care if it has 150000 mile life or not, its just cheap insurance to help protect the trans.
Other than that I do like the Ford autos, had very good luck towing with mine and I know a few guys that plow that they have held up good.

Time will tell the tale. It can look great on the drawing board but not be as good as claimed to be in the real world. It may very well turn out to be a great trans.

I am sure it will have a spin on filter. I have 2 PSD trucks with the 5 speed Torque Shifts. A 2004 F-250 and a 2006 F-350 and both have them. They are mounted up by the front head light on the passengers side. Its in the lines going to the tranny cooler.

I personaly would like to see a spin on trans filter, a drain plug in the trans pan, and also a drain plug in the torque converter like the 4R100 had. My 13yrs of experience as a mechanic tell me that 150k is to long of a maintenence interval for a auto trans, regardless of what they're studies say LOL.
