I need to do a leakdown test on my JD 750 and need to remove the injectors. Sorry for such a basic question, but before I remove the studs that hold them in, I wanna check and make sure theres not an easier way to get them out. My question is: Do I have to remove the studs? It looks like the threaded boss (where the fuel line screws in) will hit them if I leave the studs in.

I'm afraid the studs will be a major pain to remove....I'll try the jam-nut technique first....any tricks to getting them out?

Is there anything I else I need to know about the injectors? Like don't turn them upside down or something crazy like that?

Thank in advance,
Chris

The studs don't have to come out remove the nuts and banjo bolt and plug the line and injector so no dirt gets inside and you can move the injector in any position it wont hurt it .Make sure you have new copper gaskets when you reinstall.

My first suggestion would be to buy a service manual. It will make your life so much easier. From your previous posts I think you would use it frequently.

Thanks for the reply, unfourtunately my engine doesn't have glow plugs :(

Even though it's gonna make me look dumb, I'm completing my post. After removing the fuel line and the top hat, the injector simply slides out of the head (I thought it would be screwed in, but I was wrong).

I ordered one last week, it's on the way!

Hey Bill what kinda times does your Chevelle run? Nice launch btw. I'm a Chevrolet muscle car guy myself, so you can probaly feel my pain figuring out a diesel. It's fun though!

You are very fortunate. The injectors DO come straight out, as you found
out. BUT, they often get cemented in with dirt and corrosion that gets
between it and the head.

For my last JD engine, two came out by twisting them while putting upward
force on them. The third was tough...I had to remove the studs to be
able to twist enough to get them out.

There is a plastic bit between the end of the injector and the lower end
of the hole in the head. Sometimes it comes out with the injector; some-
times it is left behind.

Take a closer look, It's an Elcamino 9.79@140mph on 10.5 tires. Thanks for the compliment.

If you intend to dismantle the injectors,...be sure to do it "underwater", so-to-speak, sink them in varsol or diesel fuel and don't touch anything with bare fingers above the waterline. Those parts are "salt-sensitive" from your fingers. Good luck with it.
