Enging starts in neutral but when I put the shuttle shifter in either forward or reverse, the engine kills like I had turned off the switch. Any ideas?

Check the operator presence switch under the seat, it is probably having issues as that is the expected operation if the shuttle leaves neutral without anyone in the seat.
Switch under the seat sounds like good advice. Recently got a L39 & I'm about 135-140 Pounds, when using the loader I have a tendency to lean to the side watching the bucket. The machine would shut off, after about 3 times of that I pulled the switch out, pushed the button in, wrapped electric tape around it, & shoved it back under the seat. Problem solved, don't tell OSHA about it. Ha Ha
