White Christmas in Texas

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. These are pictures of the peak of the storm on Christmas Eve. This morning the skies are clear and it's a beautiful White Christmas.

Note: In the pictures below, the last picture is looking out onto my yard where I have failed to take down my cooling water misters from this last Summer. It seems ironic that the mister is hanging there in the middle of this snow picture.

In picture #3 above, you can see the snow around our Christmas lights. This is the same lights near the end of the storm. I'd say we had 6" to 8" on the ground with blowing winds that produced drifts as high as two feet in some areas. Very pretty, but we are NEVER prepared for this kind of weather here in Texas.

its 29 degrees even down here. Wind was gusting yesterday 25-40 mph. Blew over and broke my glass top patio table. No snow tho. My wife and kid were hoping for some.

I just took some more pictures since the sun is up brightly. It sure shines on the surface of the snow and you can easily see the effects of the wind last night in the waves on the ground and the 18" of drifted snow on my new deck. I think I'm going to have to dig around in my barn and find a scoop to use for a snow shovel. Sheesh!

A whole lot of folks in the North Central states, even Detroit, Cleveland and so forth, did NOT have a White Christmas and were pretty bummed about it.

Enjoy and yes, it is a gift. It enhances the day. Shoot, yours will be gone in a few days anyhow. Count it precious.

Heard on the news this am that this is the first white Christmas in tx in 80 years? I still have over a foot from last week... freezing rain now, calling for just rain for the next day... Snow/ice dam built up around the house will mean a flooded basement if we get much rain.

No snow down here on the gulf coast but a very chilly 34F at 4am this morning when I left for work. Winds died down a little overnight. Was really rattaling the windows last night with the family over for our Christmas get together.

We have had some strange weather in Texas this year. Might as well have snow for Christmas to top it all off.
