New Trailer

What kind of axles and suspension do they use ??

I see a lot of talk on this forum about how nice the trailer looks- but I have not seen photos or any discussion on the "meat of the trailer" which are the axles and the type of suspension.

We have many equipment and enclosed trailers for work and we finally got rid of the last spring suspension- thank goodness

IMO - Torsion suspension and ez-lube spindles are the only way to go in the long run.

My dump has Torsions (Moritz) and here I'm right with Dpilot on this one. Lack of load share ability and a baby buggy ride when its heavy. Real glad my equipment trailer doesn't have torsion. I think for a boat 24' and under they are a great soft ride but for equipment or dumps I prefer spring.

I don't know where you are located, but there is a manufacturer in Eastern Iowa that I think makes a very nice trailer. I'm not sure how far there dealer network goes. This is there website: dump toc

I have the 14' 14k low profile bumper pull. It is 10ga construction throughout, 5 ton scissor hoist, 3-way gate. Might want to take a look depending upon your location.

Here are a couple pics of mine:

Ditto

B & B makes an excellent trailer.

So what's wrong with a PJ? I own/operate a landscaping company with seven different trailers. Of the seven, two are PJ's. I have never had a problem with one and when I buy a new trailer it will be a PJ. I don't understand your comment.

I wondered about this comment too. I've got two PJ's and they're great trailers.
Who knew there were trailer snobs.

DiamondPilot and others should appreciate this. I was watching a Discovery Channel HD Theater show called 'American Craftsman' and they highlighted Van Dam Woodcraft custom boats www.vandamboats.com and the 'Sempre Avanti' (Ever Forward) boat.

The trailer shown was custom made for the boat. On the way from Michigan to Wisconsin, the trailer's rear axle snapped in half at the mid point. Fortunately no one was hurt and the boat was not damaged. A close up of the axle showed it was made of two pieces of square tubing welded in the middle with no splice plug or sleeve. I don't know who made the trailer; but somebody deserves a good butt chewing over being that cheap. The name on the trailer is the boat dealer/broker, not the trailer manufacturer.

That is a nice chunk of wood! A fellow in a Wyoming community rebuilds and restores Criss- Craft boats- they are timeless and classic pieces of art!

That is pretty stupid. The only other axles I have ever seen spliced were Mobil Home Axles and they put a 12" outer sleeve on them.

I don't think torsion axles would work good in the woods where you have extreme high and low spots. Alot of pressure is exerted on the rubber flange from weight as well as the twisting motion. I have a 3500# torsion on my utility trailer that is used on the road I couldn't be happier with.
The dump trailer I'm planning to buy or build will have spring axles for durability.

...I don't think torsion axles would work good in the woods where you have extreme high and low spots..... .

That is the beauty of torsion axles- we use torsion axles in a off road setting all the time- We build and maintain snowmoble and ATV trails in the Rocky Mountians - hence the handle.;)

I am looking for a new dump trailer. 14000lb with all the extras, i have a trailer from midsota mfg and i think they are by far the best. I was wondering if there are any trailers that compare to them. Please dont post something like a PJ or something of that lower end sort these are very nice trailers.

Take a look at CornPro Trailers. Excellent quality and use American made parts.... like Dexter axles. They have a website.
