First tractor could use some advice

 :p I challange you smoody to a tractor pull :D

I didn't quite mean it like it sounded..lol 1700 is a good tractor but I think its a bit light weight for moving earth or heavy plowing, try pulling a 2 bottom plow, even the 2210 loses traction, I use a 5000 lb Massey for plowing pastures, the 1700 is a great mowing tractor though.

And do you really want to hook up to the 2210? lol

I pull a 4' 12 X 16" disc with my 1700 and it does quite well. It does tend to spin a bit with the box blade loaded with dirt in soft ground. I don't know about snow. I have never had any to plow though. :) It is really good with the rotary cutter though.

well I'd do it for kicks as long as the 2210 isn't a 4x4 :D
I'm really getting excited to find out just what this tractor is capable of doing.
I've only toy around with it in the short time of owning it and then the cold weather came in, I have used it with my 5'- 10 disc harrow, and it doesn't bog it at all, it did however spin a lot when I first started using it but once I figured out the combination engine speed and gear and locking in the Diffy I was hooking to the ground in no time at all,;) I do find the break away is rather difficult using the FEL on this Hard Ga. red clay, I'm going to need a tooth bar if ever I plan to need to do much digging and moving of earth,
I'm sure if given a choice of the 2 tractors the 2210 would for certain be superior over the 1700, But by far is the 1700 only a lawn mower LOL
I like to think of it more as a Small garden tractor that can do big work:D

Thanks again for your input, I'm going to look at the 2310 on Sat.

Pulling a disc harrow is not exactly heavy plowing, the 2210 does not effectively pull a potato plow unless I play the 3 point up and down to keep from spinning. Its not the power thats the limitation, its all about weight/traction Just like a 4x4 truck is about useless in mud if your running street tires, no traction, no work. But your right DeepNDirt, you are far ahead of any lawn mower..lol

tohechel, don't let my comments make you not consider the 1700, its a great tractor. I think you will be happier with the 2310D though for the loader work

DeepNDirt, the 2210 is 2WD

Back when I owned my lesser HP Kubota I had a 5 tooth All purpose plow
between it have the rice tires and working with the 3 pnt lift as you mention I could get decent results in breaking up this Ga. red clay although it was more like pulling up bricks rather then cultivating' so this is when I decided to trade the Plow for the disc harrow and now the harrow does a much better job both cutting and cultivating and of course smoothing,
I haven't had a chance to hook the 1700 to an actual plow so I cannot argue this fact :D I do think the 1700 is a much heavier tractor then all others it the comparable HP rating thus giving it a slight advantage in hooking to the ground to gain traction, the higher speeds is not to be used while attempting to break new soil all you will get is wheel spin and I can only imagine that even a 2 wd 2210 would find it difficult to do so, Hp is not always the key to getting positive results from a CUT tractor, My Kubot was only a 14 hp at the PTO more like 16-17 hp. at the flywheel and it would really do the job. this being said is truly one of the reason I thought no more need of getting anything larger then what I have in the 1700 I think the 1700 is rated around 20-21 hp and has more then enough power for my needs,
although I only have a small garden plot and 6 acres to work,........
However a 4wd would have been nice to have;)

Well guys I decided to go with the 1700 today, it's in pretty nice shape overall. The tires are a little weather checked but it seems very good mechanically. What a cool little tractor, that will work great in the woods. The guy traded me for an old 4 wheeler I wanted to get rid of. I guess I'm just going to have to have 2 tractors ;)
Thanks again for your input

Congrats! we're sure you'll have more fun! I mean use for the tractor than would had from the 4 wheeler, ;) my wife and i each owned a 4 wheeler never hardly used them, Bayou 220 & Lakota 230, sold them last year decided we woud get a Mule, but then the dang economy fell and we spent the money paying up bills, But at least I still have My Yanmar to play around on..
I mean work with :D
