It is actually less fiction than you think. There is a scientist in England who studies the peat bogs for two types of beetle. One hibernates in super cold, one in super heat. The peat bogs have a known stratification to year ratio just like tree rings. He saw layers of one type for years and and then layers of the other type. His theory is that if we are experiencing global warming, it will actually push us into another ice age as the glaciers melt and push the Gulf Stream down. His work was the basis for the movie The Day After Tomorrow. Then it will cycle all over again just like he saw in the peat bogs.
The main problem that I see is that the alarmists are also reactionists instead of thinking things out. They are the same people who wanted us to use plastic bags instead of paper, and now plastic bags are bad. They are the same people who are pushing solar panels and wind turbines, even though both would have detrimental effects if we installed enough to power the world as we know it. That many solar panels would bounce light and heat back, and the Earth would not absorb the energy it needs. That many wind turbines would change wind patterns as the energy from the wind is used to power the turbines.
WE are the TRUE environmentalists who want a world for our children that has clean water, clean air, and clean Earth; but we also realize that you cannot throw the economy under the bus to accomplish this. I call the other environmentalists "trendy hippies". They have enough money to send to all the environmental groups and be vegeteraians with supposedly organic food, but if anything bad ever happened they would be eating each other in big cities once the trucks stop rolling. I tell everyone my plan for these NIMBY people that don't want to build a new power plant for the load growth that they themselves are actually creating. I would get them all to sign a petition against it, and then use those names/addresses to shut off their power. That would take care of the load growth. Then see how long it takes for them to change their minds.
Long post I know.
