Ice Fishing with a John Deere

Will the Deere float you ask ? Here is living proof from the grounds of a correctional institution in Wisconsin. They were careful not to get the loader wet.

You have to be kidding!! I guess it is the first time they have ever been out on the ice. Maybe they can get an Ice Breaker from the Russian Navy to get them out?
Wait!!! Call Washington, EPA, we have a HASMET incident, fuel, oil contaminating the water. Where are the oil barriers?
Is the driver still holding his breath?

I really want to hear that being explained.

I've done that trying to clear off a pond to make a hockey rink. What I did was to seal the exhaust with a rubber plug and put a chain onto the front axle. Then chop the front wheels loose and let her set on the pond bottom. Hook the chain to the the next available tractor and yank her out. Pull the plug, check for cranking ability (lockup), check air cleaner and oil level. Go plow the driveway instead. There was not an oil slick on the water, so I figured she was not leaking in or out.

That was "back when I knew it all"...

Wow, small world. I work for Illinois Dept. of Corrections and our institution has several Deere tractors and two lakes on prison property. Twice this year we had tractors go in the water.....to the defence of IDOC ( and I can't defend them too often ) neither was because they were pulling a fishing shanty across ice with a tractor.
