Backhoe Model 48 backhoe on a 955?

I'm not a welder.

That would be a deal breaker for me...getting this BH mounted to your machine will certainly require welding and fabrication.

Man! I wish I could find a deal like that! That 48 (or whatever) would fit my 4120 nicely! Around here they are like $6-8K used.

That looks like an old 8 hoe, on maybe a JD 1050? Look at that subframe....
you can see a bit of it in one photo.

Anyway, I have made subframes for 2 of my hoes on 955s, and they
were not hard to make. The hoe is a clone of the Woods 7500, but
this one is a good deal heavier because it has more steel and uses
2 swing cyls instead of one. It is in the same class at the 8, or 48, or 448
from JD. It weighs a bit more than the 48, but it is not bigger.

$2K is a good deal, as long as it has no rust on the cylinder rods, and
the hydraulics work. You can't use his subframe, however.

Here is my 955/PrairieDog, and one of the subframes I made.

So All I need to do is have a simple subframe frame fabricated similar to what you have here and the hydraulics will hook right up after I mount the frame. Other than being a bit oversized... everything should work?

I believe from the looks of that hoe it would be too much for your little tractor. I have the 448 on my 4520 and it is a load. It looks like that hoe is alot heavier. Buy the hoe if you get a really good deal on it and then try to sell or trade it for a smaller hoe that would be more suitable for your tractor. Just remember with a torch and welder anything can be made to fit. Good luck.

I don't think you said what kind of hydraulic setup you have. If
it has not already been done, you need to get a Power Beyond plug
and connect some hyd lines to your hydraulic block under the seat.

Or, you can use a PTO hyd pump/reservoir setup. That will cost a lot
more than using your tractor's hyd system, unless it is included with
the hoe.

OK.I'll let it go. THe reality is it's just too big... even if it is a really good deal. I'm not in any hurry to get one. Maybe eventually a deal will come along on a #7.

If anyone would be interested, the backhoe is here:

Thanks everyone for all of the help and advice.

That is either broken, stolen, or a scam. No way you can get a big backhoe AND subframe for $2K legitimately. I would drive to Little Rock to get a 48 with subframe for $2K. Like KennyD said, you can get $5K+ for it the very next day.

If its real, you should just buy it to turn it around.

I don't have the time or resources to mess with it. I will say that so far in speaking with the guy, it does not seem like a scam. He told me it does slowly leak down after awhile raised, and there is a bit of play in some of the joints. It may be a scam, but I've spoke to the guy on the phone twice and he sent me the pix I posed immediately when I asked.

See the pix I posted earlier.

Oh, I gotchya. I didn't see where the pictures were before. Yeah, that ain't a 48/448. I guess he could only want $2K for that. Still, something wouldn't be quite right with it. Though leaking down slowly I would probably call normal.... Sorry I butt in, everyone already had it.

It's not a 48 BH, It does look well made/HD though.
But it's ~30 years old and ain't gonna simply couple up to any modern machine. I think it could be legit. Not the deal of the century as far as I'm concerned.
Sure, when you're looking for something like that you can't find it, but try selling one. Used equipment is not fetching big money these days. Which could be a :) or a :( depending on which side of the coin your on.

I've got a 48 hoe on my 32 hp 4310 seems to be a good fit, I thought a 955 was in the same class, though this one for sale looks heavier than a 48.

Well at least you guys make me feel better thinking that my hoe might always be worth decent money if I needed to sell it.

EDIT: I'm a slow typer and didn't see you changed your thought of it after seeing it :) :End Edit
