I have been wanting to build a new barn for years, finally got up the nerve to just do it. I will say that I got alot of ideas and tips from other pole barn threads posted here.
I have been working on this with my brother for about two months, the weather and available time has slowed what I can get done lately.
Started with it being 20 x 28 but as we put in the posts we decided on 20 x 36. Yes, I should have went even larger. Here are some of the photos.
First time using the post hole digger, can't imagine doing it without.
Dug each hole as deep as I could, put a cement block at the bottom of each, I have heavy clay soil.
6x6 treated posts, two bags of dry concrete mix and crushed stone.
2x12's along the top, both front and back attached with 1/2 inch galv carriage bolts.
I had originally planned on steel siding, on the way to order it I stopped by an Amish lumber mill. They had rough sawn Hemlock, had been setting for about 7 months...........couldn't resist. I plan on putting the battens on in the late spring.
Ivy green steel roof, I really debated this too between shingles or metal. I will say that once we got started it sure goes up fast.
After getting the main section up I decided to put an overhang on the back, running the full length. Alot of my decisions were/are made as I go. The roof would have been alot easier if I would have decided this at the beginning.
At the ends of the overhang I am planning on cutting an arch.
