Yep! 1951 novel by John Wyndham and a 1981 B-grade movie. I thought there'd be a few around who would remember. The general plot is that these 3-legged carnivorous plants were discovered by the Russians who experimented in the lab with them. They were unique in that they could uproot their "legs" and walk around looking for human prey who they captured with a long tentacle. Their seeds were spread all over around London due to a airplane accident. Subsequently a meteor shower occurred that blinded most of the population that looked at it. The triffids then attacked as they became full grown and the city was in chaos. Only sighted people could fight back; however, most sighted people had been captured by the blind and forced to be the eyes of the groups of blind people.

That was pretty intense reading for a 12 year old kid. I remember at times I had to put the book down. Dave, I'm surprised you hadn't heard of this before.

Jim, I didn't learn to read until 1955 My Mom insisted on reading things to me like 'Mother West Wind Stories'. SciFi wasn't on her menu I guess.

I have never been a big fan of SciFi myself. Probably missed some good tales.

LOL, I thought he was talking about those little furry creatures that were after Captain Kirk in that Star Trek episode. Now I'll have to try and remember what those things were called.
