Hi all, new to the forums, long time mechanic and off roader.
I have a used RTV 900G I'm repairing to use. It has some U Joint troubles in back and before I dive in to fix it all, I have a few questions.
1. What holds the outer halves of the rear half shafts into the carrier housing that is welded to the crossmember (that all has to come out together)? Press fit? Hidden snap ring or lock screws?
2. Do the experts here suggest replacement of entire rear halfshaft assys or just rebuild with bearings, seals, u-joints, etc etc, if still usable, even though splines are badly rusted and getting a bit of slack?
I have the carrier out from under the thing and before I go pressing, heating, or beating I need to know what holds those outer halves in place. Does the wheel flange serve to clamp the bearings against a machined shoulder inside?
Also is there any source for aftermarket pieces or is it all Kubota only stuff? It also has a cracked head and I'll be looking for one of them as well.
Thanks in advance...
