I have been kicking around about getting a generator for a couple of months now. i ruled out a small diesel because of cost and I prefer not to go chinese.

I think that generac makes their own engines. According to their web site tey are made in the US. http://www.generac.com/Portables/Portable_FAQs/

Just called my HD. They don't have any on sale, never did, and probably won't. Too bad, at that price, I would buy one (Generac 7000). I was just about to buy a Generac 8000.

Yes "passgas" they make there own motors.. B.S. Was so impressed by the motor several years ago they bought the rights to build it also..

The Home Depot near me (west central FL) has the same deal on generators. I haven't seen any great deals on the tools I want, though.

Was in Lowes yesterday and they had a Generac XP8000 for $1,250. on sale. I never really paid any attention to Generac but it does look well made, the fit and finish anyway.

Not cheap $ though. and cosuming over a gallon of fuel per hour only pulling 4kw (1/2 load)

Yea! Finally found a Home Depot with the sale AND generators available. My dad saw them at a HD by where he lives and they were sold out when he went back. After checking 5 HDs in the area I finally hit pay dirt on the 6th try. One less thing to worry about and a few $$$$ saved.

Certainly not good pics but all I had handy was my iPhone. I just unloaded it and hadn't even put the wheels on yet. Really not that exciting is it?

Funny to see this thread because I was in HD today and saw the same sales. We had an Ice storm here in southen Indiana last year and we were without electricity for 8 days. Our generator paid for itself that week. I especially liked the husky on display with the subaru engine. I hear great things about those engines and for $299 for 5000 watt continuous and a 4 dongle cord included.
