Figured out what a buzz box is...

I think I've found a 5000 watt generator and a Hobart stick welder.

On second thought, maybe not. I found a Hobart 205 welder. Hobart says it's a 1-phase welder. I always thought that meant 110volt, but the guy says it has a NEMA 6-50 style plug, which I thought was for two phase.

So my question is can I just put a twist lock plug on this welder and it work with that generator?

I know 3 phase is industrial, and I thought single phase is residential but I've never heard of 2 phase.

If it a 205 amp welder it has to be 220 volt, as long as the genny puts out 220 volts you should be able to plug the welder in, just not sure what the max welding amps you will be able to produce. I don't think you could get 200 amps out of it but really don't know.

When you first strike the arc it's basically a short circuit and causes a high surge, not sure how the 5KW genny is gonna like that, but would think you should be able to do some welding with it, rarely do I ever go over 150 amps.
