Problems greasing bh75.

For whatever reason I can't seem to get any grease into a couple of the pins on my bh75. I replaced the zerks, but still cant squeeze any grease in. I purchased a pneumatic gun and even that isn't strong enough.

What am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem and I am going to try taking the zerks out and using my torch to heat the area and using a small wire or something to poke around and try and dislodge old hardened grease or with the torch melt it and then use new zerks which I have already bought at tractor supply...you wouild think they would make the zerks where this would not happen...I am sure many folks just move on to the next zerk and never grease the one that is stopped up and then one day there is a major failure.

Are the zerks you're having trouble with the ones on the stabilizer arm where it meets the backhoe frame? Can't get grease into mine - on either side.

Yep. That's the ones. I've had this problem since day one, so I doubt it's old-clogged grease. The pins seem to fit way too tight compared to the others.

Mine have been like that since new as well. Personally (and I'm a greasing fanatic) I don't worry about them. Even in heavy use, how much wear is there really gonna be at that point? I keep an eye on it and perhaps as it gets worn it'll take some grease.

I've had the same problem with a couple pins and this is what I do...

Most of the pins in the backhoe are hollowed out from the zerks through to the middle of the pin. A hole is drilled perpendicular through the pin to meet the hollowed out center. The pins fit tight because they ride inside a metal bushing that is pressed into the moving joint, it goes full length throuh the hole. The grease is pushed from the zerk through the middle and out through the perpendicular hole onto the bushing the pin rides in. If the hole that carries the grease to the bushing is pushed right up against the bushing the grease can't get out, to much pressure against the hole where it meets the bushing. There is some play so if you move the backhoe (or bucket) around a bit to get the pressure to release to the other side of the pin the grease should flow just fine. If you ever pull a pin you will see what a simple setup it is. The holes are small where the grease comes out so it doesn't take much to stop the flow if the pressure is in the wrong place and against the bushing.

I just had this happen again when I changed a BH bucket and couldn't get grease into the pin I just inserted and knew it was as clean as a whistle. I started the tractor and rotated the bucket so the weight shifted to the opposite side of the pin (to leave room at the hole for grease to flow through) and it worked just fine. I'm sure this is the same for most of the moving joints and pins on the BH. You can't tell where the hole is so you will just have to play with it a bit by moving it around and it should work as my situation did. Just taking the weight off by lowering it to touch the ground doesn't work all the time because the hole might be on that side of the pin.. so lift it off the ground and rotate or articulate the arms and joints to find the sweet spot, I'm sure it will work for you as it did for me.

Exactly, I can't get any grease at all into the zerk where the stabilizer arm hits the frame of the backhoe, one side is worse than the other. I have tried every position there is to try to get grease in there, it ain't going in. I don't know what the consequence of not greasing it will be but I can't imagine it will be a big deal.

Well good. Now there's at least three of us having problems with the exact same grease points on the BH75 so I don't feel so bad. Yes, I've tried moving the stabilizer - I've been greasing equipment for 25+ years. I actually held pressure on the gun as the stabilizer was cycled up and down repeatedly - no go. There is so little movement/wear at this point I really don't sweat it. I do try again every time I hit the other grease points, but I can't imagine this pin ever wearing out from lack of grease.

Same here on my dipper pin. I replaced zerk, then rotated the pin. I hold grease pressure on it and move it. A little grease has leached out around the other end, so something is getting in, but not like it oughta be. It's on the back burners for now.
