cylinder end cap removal?

I have a 98 JD 4300 w/ 430 FEL. I am trying to rebuild the front main lift cylinder. I made a tool to fit the hole in the end cap but cant seem to break it loose. Anyone have any suggestions that might help.

I'm assuming the cylinder body is clamped in a vise (hopefully with aluminum jaws). And, you made a spanner wrench to fit the holes/slots in the end cap.

How long is the handle for the tool you made? You may need to use a helper bar on the handle of the tool (add some mechanical advantage). That cap has been on the cylinder for 12 years, so there might be a bit of corrosion.

JD has used two different types of cylinders over the years...Please post a picture or the S/N of the loader so I can help you correctly.

Mine have the two slots for a tool I guess. I used a chisel in the slot and a hammer on the end of the chisel. Once it moved I could do it with my hand.

For keeping it from turning I put a long rod through the opposite end and no I dont have an extension on it yet. I just wanted to make sure thats all it needed was a little more convincing before really started torquing on it and then find out there was something else that was suppose to be done also. I have seen the 2 different types posted on here. It is not the one with the snap ring on the end, it has the screw in collar. Mine kind of has 2 holes too but one looks like its just for the hyd fitting.
