May be a stupid question but...

Can you use furnace oil in a Ready Heater Salamander? I use kerosene but it is pricey as I only buy it in small jugs - 2.5 gallons. I may see if the local furnace supply CO. will fill jugs as well from their truck. I know they carry kerosene on board.

TIA

I use off road diesel in all 3 of my heaters with great results. I pay 2.60 a gallon, kerosene costs a dollar a gallon more and I cannot see any difference in the performance of the heater.

Only challenge with diesel is that in very cold conditions it may gel and not flow properly. Also on the plus side, diesel has slightly more energy per gallon than kerosene.

I've found that the diesel fuel has more fumes than K1.

Depending on your location, offroad can also be LSD vs. ULSD. I like sulfur but acknowledge that it has more smell when burned. Either will work great in a heater made to burn diesel.
