Hi Guys,

Am new to this, so be please be patient:confused:...just bought a Kioti Ck20s HST TL and am looking at putting a snowblower attachment. The rear PTO output according to manuf specs is 16.2 HP... I am looking at a good deal for a slightly used 60 inch 2 stage ...but am unsure if it is too big for my rig..ie not enough HP ...any thoughts?

Thanks

On first blush, I'd say there isn't enough HP.
But google for some snowblower sites, that will call out the HP needed for certain sized attachments for the information needed. Maybe you have enough HP to operate the blower, but not the tractor at the same time.
Good luck.

If the deal is real good, then take it, try it, and re-sell or trade-up on something the right size (if this one doesn't work for you).

I see the specs for Woods snowblower, that even the 52" suggests more HP than you have.

Depends on the snow somewhat. That is marginally low HP.

Ok...the tractor is 22 hp and the rear PTO 16, the guy who is selling is using a bota B21 with 14 hp rear PTO...and yes i agree as to the snow type etc...sales guy says 54 inch would be fine..this is only 8 inches more and don't have to run it full width ...thanks for advice

A Pronovost Puma 54 inch, recommended PTO HP 16-25.
I have a Pronovost Puma 64 inch, recommended PTO HP 18-25.
My Kubota B7800 has 22 PTO HP.
I very rarely run at the full PTO 540 RPM. which is about 2600 RPM on my tractor.
I usually run my tractor in between 2000 and 2400 RPM when snowblowing and run at a slower ground speed.(Hydrostatics are great)
The only time I run the tractor near the 2600 RPM is when I what to blow the snow a longer distance or the snow is wet.

If it a good deal, I would recommend to get it and try it.
Your HP might be a little on the low end, but if you got a Hydo Trans, just run
your tractor at a lower ground speed.
If it doesn't work out for you, and you truely got it at a good deal,
you should have no problem getting your money back out of it,
and you would have gained some valuable knowledge about snowblowers.

I have a 48" Loftness (new in 1993, still in great shape) behind my BX2350. It weighs a ton and it's really over-built, but it does what I need it to do. When I back it into heave snow a bit too aggressively it will bog down the tractor (which I don't want to do - that's how the chute gets plugged).

I wouldn't want wider, though if I had a 54" that didn't weigh as much, I'd think about trying that.

At worst you will have to take slices of heavy snow. A lot depends on the kind of snow you have to handle.

Thks Doug, Think I will seriously consider the 60 inch now...and take smaller swathes if need be...

Since your tractor is HST I think you will like the snow blower. The only small concern would be if your 3pt can carry it okay, snowblowers aren't usually too heavy so that should be okay too. With the FEL you should have enough front weight to counter it, even if you need to pick up something in the FEL to help with that.
I got the 3pt blower I have with my first tractor which was a B6200 gear, ground speed was the only real problem. With two speeds in reverse it was usually too fast or too slow, the very odd time even the slow speed was too fast. Getting the first cut through heavy drifts was tough going, after that just cut off what the tractor could handle. That is no problem with HST.

Clarence,

If it is a good deal on that snowblower go ahead and buy it. I have a 60" unit that I used to run with a 16pto hp Kubota. I was not going fast but it moved the snow just fine. I mean full width 20" deep. Even the heavy stuff that gets pushed into the driveway by the large state plow was fine. Now I run the same blower on a 22pto hp tractor and I do notice that I can blow snow (ie. travel) faster but not like earth and sky type of difference. Buy the blower before someone else does.
