Hello, First time posting here. I have a new l3400 (gear) that has 27 hours on it. Last week for the first time, I had it out on the road and used 4th gear, high range. Wow was the tranny or rear end loud. Just like the gears weren't meshing right or something. Any one else have this problem? The only time it would quiet down was when you was going up hill putting a load on it.

I haven't noticed anything unusual about mine, it has a few more hours than your's, but not too many more. I travel on the road for about 1/2 mile a few times a week, 4th and high. You may notice more noise in 4wd, it should be in 2wd for road travel anyway unless it's desperately slippery.

Not surprising, scrapper. The utility tractors (L3400, L4400, MX, etc) have spur gear final drives. They're less expensive than the planetary gearsets used in the M-series and most Ag tractors, but they're noisier. Both my L4300 and MX5000 are the same. On the road they howl. If you're used to Ag tractors, it's possible to think there's a problem.

But since I'm not there to listen to yours, you might want to mention it to your dealer. There might be something going on, but I doubt it.

Bob's right, get the dealer to have a listen to it. If it's out of the ordinary they may want to investigate. I hate to say Kubota's quality control isn't what it used to be, but I've already said it.

At least you've got a couple year's warranty ahead of you, three on the drivetrain I think. You can pull the hydraulic filter and have a look at the magnet too, if it's furry with metal there's a problem.

Like I said earlier, I don't consider mine any noisier than any other tractor I've ever run, but I'm getting deaf too, so God alone knows what it REALLY sounds like..:)

Are you supposed to wait until after 50 hours before you use high range on a gear tractor? I can't remember for sure, but I think high range is off limits until after 50 hours on the HST.

Hi Scrapper, yes I have noticed the same on my L3400. In 8th gear (4 high), in either 2WD or 4WD on the road, the tranny is twice as loud as in any other gear. I am in my 4 year with about 200 hours and the sound has stayed consistent - so I think you are all set.

I looked it up in my book last night. Under "Operating New Tractor," it says "Do not operate the tractor at full speed for the first 50 hours." I guess I left mine out of high range for the first 50 hours just to be conservative during the break-in period. Of course, I worked it hard in lots of other ways during that time period! :D
