Yep - the Paradise tax
We use propane for cooking, hot water (on demand), clothes dryer, and we do have propane fireplaces in the livingroom and bedrooms - really nice on those damp, rainy days, although classifying them as heating might be a stretch.
I really wanted to do solar H/W, but at over $6K, I couldn't see it. IMHO, the suppliers/installers figure the rebates/incentives into their pricing. We are totally off grid so didn't qualify for the electric company rebate and the tax incentives at the time would have reduced the price to still greater than $4K. Someday, maybe I can just do a DIY.
