That's the price you pay for living in paradise Out of curiosity, do you use propane only for cooking and hot water - no heating?

Yep - the Paradise tax We only have a single supplier, so no choice.

We use propane for cooking, hot water (on demand), clothes dryer, and we do have propane fireplaces in the livingroom and bedrooms - really nice on those damp, rainy days, although classifying them as heating might be a stretch. We don't live in postcard Hawaii and sometimes the temps dip to a downright chilly 59

I really wanted to do solar H/W, but at over $6K, I couldn't see it. IMHO, the suppliers/installers figure the rebates/incentives into their pricing. We are totally off grid so didn't qualify for the electric company rebate and the tax incentives at the time would have reduced the price to still greater than $4K. Someday, maybe I can just do a DIY.

Some of you guys are getting propane at around a 3rd of the cost that I pay, wow.

I'm installing a heat pump onto the furnace this month, as well as replacing the water heater with a GE electric heat pump model.

I've learned that $/gal is not always a fair comparison due to how it can be billed. For example a friend bragged how he bought his propane at 2.09/galllon. When we looked at our bills I pointed out that mine was figured at total cost per gallon including delivery and taxes. His was fuel cost at $2.09. Then there were taxes at thirty some cents and delivery fees at sixty some cents per gallon. Guess what, he paid over $3 per gallon afterall. That doesn't include his $100+ annual tank rental, etc.
It's like trying to read a phone bill. The actual product is less than all the other fees (well almost )

Had a delivery 4 days ago, $2.30gal in Elbert County CO, about 35 miles N/E of Colorado Springs, seems way up from even a few months ago.

I installed a Carrier Infinity heat pump system last year. I lock it out at 0 degf. It makes plenty of heat to keep my house comfortable and I only use propane for defrost and when the ambient is below 0.

We sorta kept our old furnace. It's a good story. I had bids from maybe a dozen suppliers and about half said our 18 year old furnace would be OK, the other half said it was too small.

I went with a guy who had a good reputation, but who said our old furnace was OK. His bid was $3,600; some of the others ran upwards of $12,000.

He installed the heat pump, then called me a week later. Said one of his guys thought the furnace was too small, copied down the model number & called the manufacturer, who confirmed the size as being too small.

Said since he screwed up, he would GIVE me a new furnace!

When he came, I asked what his cost was on the furnace. Said there is a really high markup on them; that his cost was about $600 and it listed for something like $1200-1500; I don't remember exactly. To be decent on my end, I gave him a check for $400.

At $4,000 for a new heat pump and furnace, I think I got a really good deal.

Our electric bill has gone up about $50 a month for Oct-April. We used to use 800 gallons of propane a year; now we use less than half most of which is used for water plus some supplemental heat in December and January.

im holding steady at 3% per week usage which is what i plotted last year when i started tracking it religiously.

last reading was 3 days ago at about 33% and meaning a solid 8 weeks which should take me well outside of winter and after that all i need to run is the stove and occasionally the dryer. which means i can stretch that last 10% well into the summer when price is cheep.

Wow. The flying J here only charge $2.99/gallon (plus tax) to fill BBQ grill tanks. I contracted for $1.29 gallon for this winter. I rent one 500 gallon tank and own one 500 gallon tank. The tank rental is $20/yr and the fuel price is the same $1.29. Doesn't matter what tank it goes in. I am in NC Iowa

I can not remember when we had to fill our tank in the winter twice. We live north of Houston. My tenant has been here 11 years and the is the first time for him too.

Our house is good and tight and we run it at 70 to 71 during the day and 69 at night. I paid $2.41 today or $425 then we filled RV too, so $470! Dange that's awful.

Then on top of it 32 at night the rest of the week. Would you believe Wed I think it is they are predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow late at night. We are to far south for this kind of weather.
