Oil & Fuel Fuel filters for a BX

It happened last winter to me and again this winter, but my fuel filters plugged up again. This year it happened when the temps were in the mid 20's. The tractor started running poorly and would barely idle. Last year when it did this I just changed the rear filter but this year I changed both. I run Howes anti gel in my fuel, so I don't know if it is gelling or just getting dirty. In my opinion the filters are pretty small on the BX and it needs a water trap like larger tractors have. My Bx has about 235 hours on it.

I'm pretty carefull when I refill the tractor to keep dirt out. I keep the tank full most of the time and I can't figure out any source of dirt or water Anybody else have this problem or is it just the nature of diesel fuel? I thought about a Mr Funnel.

Just a thought,could you be getting a bio-diesel blend?

I am getting a bio-diesel. I can't find any around here that isn't. It just says on the pump that it is between 5% and 20% blend.

Might be your fuel then. I run my BX with no issues at all and in temps colder than what your running. Have you tried the home heating oil companies?? Sameproduct just not taxed but becauseits foroff road use it wont make a difference.

I think you need to add kerosene to your bio blend for winter use. I seriously doubt that you are having dirty filters. Using kersosene blend will gaurantee it will start.

Home heating oil isn't very common around here. There are a couple of sources of off road diesel, but they don't want to mess around with small quantities and I don't want to mess with storing alot of fuel. I would think the bio-diesel I'm using would be blended for winter use, but who knows for sure.

My BX has 465 hrs on it fuel filters have been changed 1 time.I purchase off road diesel from my local oil distributor.Never had any fuel issues.You must have gotten some bad fuel.I would drain and flush the tank and replace the filters and start fresh.

I have the same problem here in northern, IL. I just add more anti gel to the mix. Bio-diesel turns to jelly in cooler temps and will block filters in a heart beat.

I changed my fuel filters at 50 hours (now 134 hr) and still run fuel from August 09 in MA...runs fine.
