1981 FORD 1500
Just installed a new loader valve on my 1981 FORD 1500. The release feature (floating bucket) suddenly stopped working after only a few hours of use. Now when I depress the valve leaver to lock it in the release position, the bucket rises instead of being released downwards. I assume a blown "O ring" or something. Can I take it appart and easily find the problem? I can take it back where I bought it but that's an hour away, fixing it myself with your help would be simpler. See the valve in the attachement.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum.
Yes, you can take it apart and pull the spools out to check the o-rings.

However, being it is new, I'd take it back. But first would pop off the connectors, and re-connect to be sure one isn't seated very well.

And be sure you have the curl and the loader lift hoses on the right part of the valve. The way it acts, sounds like that may be the problem.

Welcome to TBN:D

First, The proper term is "float", not release...I only am telling you that to help you search if you choose to and so we are all on the same page.

In the rear in the valve-opposite the handle you will see that the endcap is longer that the other one-that longer endcap houses the "detent" mechanism the will hole the handle in "float" mode. Sometime the balls in there need to be lubricated. Having a parts breakdown of your valve would be an asset to removing the endcap and checking on those balls.

What is brand and model of that valve?

Thanks, you saved me a trip to town. Did what you guys suggested and the FEL float feature works fine now. (thanks for the proper terms). The hoses were connected in the proper position. Seems like greasing the detent mechanism did it. I don't have a brand name (BM40 is embossed on the valve body) or a parts breakdown diagram which would have helped. :) Sincere regards

Same problem re-occuring. I brought the valve back to point of purchase, they took it apart, O-rings were fine, they changed the float detent mechanism, but it's still doing the same thing, that is the bucket starts to rise when the lever is locked in the float mode. Bucket curl works fine. Obviously oil pressure is going where it shouldn't. Something is misaligned, correct? Bad spool ? bad valve body ? This valve is made in Italy by BLB. I'm waiting for a response from them but they don't seem very anxious to answer.

Sounds like the valve is bad, I would demand a new one if you can.

That's what it's coming down to I guess! I wish the manufacturer would respond, but I guess that's dreaming in color. Thanks anyways
best regards
