I broke a John Deere 4020 I was using in the river bottoms to cultivate corn. A piece broke on the cultivator so I towed in my portable gas engine driven arc welder and commenced repair.
I had to lean way over, and really reach to get to where I need to weld. The welding rod stuck, I twisted it, it came out of the handle.
When getting the rod clamped back I forgot the welder was still on, and when I stuck the rod back in, I got ZAPPED! Bad part was my shirt tail had come up, my belly got loose, and the shortest path to ground was through my belly, through my big cowboy belt buckle which melted to the cultivator.

doc cottom, I'm thinking about what you just said, OUCH!! I bet that hurt. I got my wedding ring grounded once and it hurt like crazy and I had to pull it off my finger and man was it hot. I have a little piece of steel in the gold that I had to grind down just as a reminder to keep your mind on what you are doing. Not saying that you didn't have your mind on what you were doing but that I didn't have, I was tacking a support on a big piece of pipe that I had stood up on its end to use it as a chimney in one of my garrages and I needed to get it tacked in a hurry.

I think it's going to be extra hard to come up with anything to top welding your own belt bucket to a cultivator.

.

Jewelry and work don't mix well.

.
You got that right, and normally I take off my ring before doing anything like that but I didn't expect to get that far into the job so I never took it off when I started. I don't believe I'll ever make that mistake again lessons learned hard run deep.
