If your engine was running, the glow plugs didn't do that. Even if they are toast they will not make an engine stop. Try starting without the fuel cap on. Might not be getting air through the cap vent. When the engine stopped was it smoking?

Yep, tried that too. It smokes while turning over so I reckon it's getting fuel. Was it smoking when it stopped? I'm not sure, I think it was.

your compression may be on the low spectrum of the scale.you will not get it to start until the engine is really warm.by warm i mean to the touch warm.i plug my block heater on for a while then i preheat the glow plugs then it starts up.when it smokes while cranking it means that the temperature is not high enough to cause combustion.good luck

It's supposed to be 51 degrees this weekend, maybe I'll be able to get it started then. I don't have a block heater on it but I may have to get one! :(

Where in NC are you? There is a sequence to priming the fuel. Sorry if you already know this but start at the bleed screws on the sediment bowl/valve under the tank and follow the flow of the fuel with the final being the bleed screw at the pump. I've never had to crack the line at an injector. If you haven't put in the new glow plugs yet use a heat lamp aimed at the block. It may also help to put the lamp under a blanket but be careful not to burn up your tractor. How about your fuel filter, has it been changed too?

Live near Winston Salem. I have not changed the fuel filter yet, I did blow it out with compressed air.

I'm in western Rowan county. There's a grey dealer over in Kernersville I think.

OK, so I used a hair dryer through the air cleaner & sprayed some either through there too & it cranked.
It'll crank now no problem.
Reckon it's the plugs?

the purpose of the glow plugs is to assist the cylinders to fire at start up.it is not recommended to use ether to start engines with glowplugs.

Valley Power
i tried the blow drier it was not very effective with the tractor in the open yard.

Hello:
I have a D 1500II and if I may ask for some help with a few problems that have come up. I live in Baytown, Tx and owner 8 acres of flat short grass land. The PTO shifter is stuck in gear and wont go into netural. How can I handle this? The next thing is it over heats after about bush hogging about 2 acres. The RPMs are around 2000 and in second gear and in High. I have to let it sit for about a hour and refill the radiator since the water has steamed out. Is the theromstat bad or do I have a dirty radiator? No hoses leak on the radiator. Other than that this tractor is a horse good power and cuts well with a 4 foot brush hog. It was my Grand dads and I want to clean up and repaint and keep it going for my son to use when he get to the age to operate safely. I know parts are hard to get but I would like to replace the radiator and I need a new front grill tree branch torn it off when I was clearing the land. Anyway guys thanks for reading and hope to hear back soon.
