Shearing Airedales with Oster clippers usually dulls them very fast and there is no local sharpening service. I have to always ship it out somewhere. Anybody tried to sharpen clipper blades? Or maybe just hone it on a diamond hone?

You may want to check with the local barber. I seem to remember having a conversation about this once with the barber I use. There may be a service that will do it. Get connected with a pro and maybe he'll give up some secrets.

We just got our Harry back from the beauty parlor on Saturday....He was getting to look like a Rastafarian..... He's looking like an airedale again now...sure smells pretty too...:D:D

Blades I've sharpened are flat, so I do it on glass (for a flat surface) and with a 600 wet/dry paper with oil.
Then to finish with oil and grinding compound on the glass.

We've had Airedales, Giant Schnauzers and Black Russian Terriers and have accumulated dozens of the A5 Blades. Every couple years we send out scores of them to get sharpened and it seems it is a different place each time.

The quality of the sharpening services out there is so poor it causes us to keep buying new blades... which as you know adds up quick when the blades are about $20 to $25 each.

And yes I've tried honing my own with poor results.

Just recently I saw a local story about a clipper repair company in some small town in Missouri and how they had more parts and did more repairs than just about any other place in the country. It was one of those,"who'd have believed such a business would be located in a small Missouri town" kind of stories. Don't know if this is the one or not.

I can do that, done it before with other things - does it work?

If there are any large dog shows near you they will have one or more sharpeners among their vendors. We have as many as 3 regulars at our Houston show in July. The sharpeners there have to be good or they don't last beyond one show. The handlers demand it.
