To explain further....The grease on the hood is a gooey mess. It is extremely sticky and thick. I think it is because of the cold air.

Don't ask me how it got there.!!

Anyway...I will take some advice from here and clean it up. The tractor has been sitting idol for too long up here in the NorthEast......though 3 feet of snow is predicted through the weekend....a wet, heavy snow.

Thanks for all the replies.!

An old rag you are done with, with some diesel on it, will cut hardened grease and get you down to something you can finish off with soap or simply green.

All the grease points on my loader arms and backhoe are getting pretty messy, I need to do some serious cleaning too.

I would use the diesel and rag method followed by a new rag and Dawn dishwashing solution. Cheap and effective cleaners for grease and grime.

ditto that.. hard to beatdish soap for cutting grease once the heavy is off.

Ditto on the Dawn/Palmolive Dishwashing soap... and its not hard on ANY finish or surface...
Diesel works awful well too, but then you gotta wash the Diesel off too...I use Dawn to clean up around the fuel filler....

Ultimately what I'd do is get a bucket of hot soapy dish water and wash it off with that...when it comes to cleaning grease, heat is your friend.

Mineral spirits. It will clean the frease without leaving a residue. Other wise diesel will work well also.

I think mineral spirits works well too but diesel in my neck of the woods is $2.75/gallon and mineral spirits is close to $10/gallon  It used to be cheap but aint no more.
