It will only kill them if they come into contact. That's the problem with these little monsters, they're very secretive and sneaky

I like to do my owm pest control for 2 reasons: I have animals and I know it is done thouroughly. Do you know of any over the counter stuff for termites??

possible silly question, is there a type of soil termites prefer{rich black soil, clay, sand, rock}? I realize they eat wood, just wondering if there is a type of dirt they would rather nest in?
Not a silly question at all. While I think termites will live in all soil types, they esp like sandy soils and proliferate in that environment. That's why in these parts a Termite Bond for $150 annually with annual spraying is well worth the money.

If your house is on a crawl space, your best immediate return for the efforts is to make sure the crawl space is raked clean of all left over wood, limbs, debris, etc from construction.

I just used the borax, but I did it before any walls went up. Borax is a great bug killer for a couple of reason it kills the bugs but won't hurt the pets. I also used it on my milled lumber{under cover} it killed ALL the boring beatles in just a couple of weeks. The problem with borax is that outside in weather conditions it will wash away. Check out the forestryforum, do a search on termites, I'm pretty sure they have quite a bit of info???
