I've had my doubts since long before I made my first posting on this Forum. I don't mean to discredit anyone and I try to respect everyone's opinions but sometimes it gets a little deep!! I became a member to learn from those that actually know what they are talking about. I would say that we are thinking the same!! I'm waiting to see where this goes,

SW03,
After reading your replies I felt that you were a source of wisdom that I could learn from so I used the search function to bring up all your past postings and replies in as much as you stated yesterday that you have been on TractorByNet since 2002. Funny thing is that according to this forum you've only been a member since August 2008. That makes me conclude that if you had been a member for the last 8 years then you must have changed your ID so if that is the case please give me your past ID so that I can further appreciate your input of the last 8 years. One thing that leaves me with a question is that some of your replies don't make sense and others contradict what you post on various occasions.

An example of this is when you stated back on the 23rd of September, 2008, that SUDT can be, as designed, used as an engine oil. This caused me to bring up all the SAE Papers regarding SUDT, especially SAE Technical Paper 972788 from 1997 Titled "Development of High Performance Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid (Kubota Super-UDT)" This was easy for me to research as I subscribe to the the SAE Technical Papers. Somewhere in my search I missed finding the fact that Kubota meant for SUDT to be used for not only as a Transmission Fluid and a Hydraulic Oil, but also as an Engine Oil. Can you please enlighten me as to your source of this information? I'm really looking forward to reading that.
Thank you,
Jim

Easy Jim, I was on here with over 3K posts, cowboy doc was all over, Junkman was cool and Dargo was banned (that, being banned does not work)! Yea, long before you and even I have more posts!!!!!! I was posting links to free manuals, webpages on BH dollies, UOA's (long before most got it) etc. My old ID, well you figure it out since let others do the work...LOL

But your spec is over 13 years old, and it is about testing the spec and not an app. I will look it up tomorrow since I have access to it and many SAE, ASTM, MIL, NAS spec since I work in the auto field. Many of my souces I cannot say since they are proprietary to the manufacture (Cummins, etc), tribologists etc. Since these items end up in Irag, Afgan..Some tranny, engine people etc say to drain oil/fluid at XX hours or miles when they have something else for another app..And yes, SUDT can be used as an engine oil if you know whom to talk too. If you think UDT and SUDT is just a temp and wear issue, well more then that...And you are not going to find that on google, yahoo etc...

Lastly, I do not put much faith in specs since they are just that. But I am sure you know all about since you "subscribe to the the SAE Technical Papers". Then again anyone can post the above since google is free! LOL

My points are direct since people keep going on the same topics. Just use the search and find 99% of the answers you want. You are not breaking ground here people on most topics. Do some of my posts make sense? Maybe not, but I do not spend hours or minutes writing things..Post and move forward....:laughing:

Maybe I should have used the seach in the index, but to tell you the truth I like to hear from other members of this forum. I can write back to them if I want to ask them something else,or to see if they may have the same tractor as I do.It's a way of meeting new people ,and finding out what they have to say .
Maybe there is something new on a old issue that someone has to offer. If they want to help out and write back, it's there right to .They don't have even read it if they don't want to. Why did you? did you think there was going to be something new on this?
All of us that are new owner's seek advice from all you guys to learn how to take care of our tractors and how to do things with them, without getting hurt or killed by doing something wrong.
I will use the seach at times ,but will keep on asking question about old posts as much as new ones. What is a old post for some, is new to others. Many of us enjoy getting answers from people all over ,and look forward to talking to them ,kinda boring using the seach all the time, makes us feel were apart of this too. So thanks again for those who take the time to answer us even if it is an old post.

sw03,
I would address you by your first name but unlike most on this forum nothing is posted about you. Actually I really don't really care but in-as-much that my searches have never turned up anything relating to Kubota SUDT being designed to be used as an engine oil I would appreciate knowing your source unless as you say, it is proprietary to the manufacture which sounds like a bunch of BS.

Anyway, I'm sincere when I say "Have a Nice Day",
Jim

SUDT was not designed to be used as an engine oil.

It was simply designed to have a much higher flow rate in a hydraulic system at all temperatures than any other applicable oil available at that time.

It is best for GST and HST trannies in cold, cool, warm, and hot environments!

Good grief SW03..Lighten up. New members become valuable members. Who really cares if a subject has been addressed before..2/3 of the issues discussed here have been discussed somewhere else, sometimes a new bit of information evolves. If you're a true oracle, as your posts appear, you should ignore any posts from peasants like us anyway.

By the way..There is no way on God's green earth that I would use UDT as an engine oil, even in my push mower. It's hydro fluid, plain and simple. If you have a $20,000+ piece of equipment and want to use that, go ahead. Don't tell others to do it. I'd love to see the warranty response to your analysis if you blow an engine.

Besides, given that it's a Kubota branded fluid that costs 5 times as much as engine oil, don't you think that they would recommend it for their engines for no other reason beyond profit?

Best of luck.

Well, we seem to be talking mostly about trying to even justify this thread.

As far as the subject- I recommend the SUDT. Its temperature/viscosity stability [High Viscosity Index] make it good for all temperatures. Combine its compatability with extreme pressure [gears] and it can be used for darn near everything. In a pinch it would do fine as an engine oil. However, since it doesnt have the detergents for the "dirty" environment you would have to change it often. Thats a lot of money...so only in a pinch.
