ELECTRIC TONGUE JACK

   / ELECTRIC TONGUE JACK #11
I have a Carson 10,000 lb dump trailer and want to put an electric jack on it. Carson trailers dosen't seem to think its a good idea. These are the same jacks that are on toyhaulers and travel trailers and seem to work fine. Anybody have any problems with electric jacks on dump trailers?

Thanks
Mike

How about this deal

Hook-n-Hitch

The videos are pretty interesting.

That looks really neat however I make it a point to be no where near a winch cable with tension on it! I saw that it had a tethered control but it looked like you still needed to be there to position the tongue! Just makes me nervous.

Thanks for all the input. I found a 3500# unit at AW DIRECT for a good price. I知 going to give it a try. The Hook n Hitch is a unique item. I was always blowing fuses from day one with my dump trailer also. Had to check it all the time to see if it was good or not. I finally put a new deep cycle battery on and the problem disappeared.

Thanks
Mike

Yep, I get worried also about wire rope accidents.
I'd never use that Hook n' Hitch on a loaded trailer like shown in several of the videos. The dual axle 10K car hauler I'm looking at now weighs about 2200 lb and the tongue weight can't be more than 200-300 lb. Which is well within the limits of that gizmo.

As a check, I googled "wire rope" to find out how strong this stuff is. I found some info here

Bridon American Corporation Domestic Wire Rope Manufacturer

Looks like the 1/4" dia 6x19 wire rope has 3 tons (6000 lb) minimum breaking force. Hook n' Hitch puts a 500 lb limit on their gizmo. They don't say what size wire rope they are using, but it looks like it might be 1/4" from their videos. If so, there's at least 10X safety factor on that gizmo. Makes sense to me to have a large cushion like this since you have to work so close to that loaded wire cable.

That all makes perfectly good sense. I leave my tractor loaded on my trailer allot during mowing season and hook and unhook loaded. I have found a wireless backup camera to be a great tool. It takes a little bit to know when to stop and leave room for the parking paul to let the truck roll a couple of inches but it works really well.
