OK, I am a newbe here...so be kind.

I have a Kubota L39, love the thing but want to now venture out using other impliments. However, I am a bit intimidated by the thought of disconecting the backhoe from the tractor in preporation of using the three point hitch. Can anyone confirm or calm my fears? Tricks for doing it smoothly or things to watch our for?

Welcome to the forum. Don't be intimidated by the backhoe it really is easy to do. The best hint I can offer is be sure and remove it on solid level ground. Makes it much easier to reinstall. There have also been a few people that had trouble, the first time, with the pins being hard to remove. I think they got painted or slightly rust in. Wouldn't hurt to use a good penetrating oil on them for a few days in advance. Other than that, follow the directions in the owners manual and it should go fine.

My newly acqB20 has two T-handled screw bolts that secure the BL to the back of the
frame.

Pardon my previous post, I hit some key that posted the thing when I was just
getting started writing it....

Anyhow, as I was typing, my new used B20 has two large T-handled screw pins that attach the BH to the frame. On my first attach/detach rotation, there was a lot of resistance to doing the screwing. Once the screws were out it was easy to see that the threads on the screw were screwed, as it were. I bought a tap and die set, and dressed both male and female threads without much problem.

As MarkV stated, and per the instructions, DO remove the BH on a good solid
surface, such as under cover on a paved surface. Some lube on the threads/pin also a wise idea, both in and out. If you can reach the bottom of the pins and clean them of grit before attempting removal, so much the better.

It will take a bit of messing around with the various inputs, but you WANT to level the thing up to the point where there is little to no resistance it removing said screw pins. If they are hard to turn (don't know if the L39 has the screw pins or just pins) or remove, it means things are not lined up just right. If not lined up on removal they will be much harder to reinstall. Also, per the instructions, once you have the BH situated so that the pins move easily, do a good job of blocking the bottom of the unit so that it will not change position as the hydraulic pressure in the arms and boom bleed of a bit from sitting.

Here's one for you accessory fabricator/vendor folks out there, and I get a prototype to test and keep! If one were really organized,, one could fabricate a dedicated blocking cradle or stand to slide under the BH that would align things real close or perfect w/ no messing. Of course, tire pressure etc. would have influence, so, said cradle could have a couple of small jacks incorporated that would make small lateral adjustments to aid in decoupling/re-coupling.

FWIW,
Dennis

OK, I am starting to feel better about the task in front of me. Sounds like with some carefull planning as to finding a solid level location and possibly a support to help hold position of BH afterward it should go OK. I like the suggestion for lubing the pins a few days ahead...didn't think of that.

My thanks to those who answered with insights, MarkV and Denwa

BDW ,Hi

I have a L45 TLB Which is the hydro version of your L39 and I remove my Back Hoe all the time. I agree with the other posters about making sure your on a good level surface.

But as far as blocking it and all that so it don't move you don't have to. Just follow the direction in the manual for removing the back hoe. It will tell you to put it down on the ground after you have detached from your tractor so it will not settle and hurt someone.

If you do not have a back hoe manual go to your dealer and ask for one because this is the best way to remove and attach it back on. Getting back on is a little harder then taking off. IMO. But not to bad the first time takes about 10 minutes to come off and 20 to put back on . After a few times 5 minutes off and 10 back on.

Its pretty easy all and all just follow the book and you should have no problems. Good Luck !!!

It really is quite easy to take the backhoe off as the others here have said. Just follow the instructions in the manual. Also, I wash down the area by the hydraulic quick disconnects first and make sure the plugs and caps are clean. Have a rag in hand when disconnecting the hydraulic couplers to catch oil drips.

Once you have the pins out, put some Bostik Never-Seez or Permatex Anti-Seize on them and you will never have trouble getting them out.

I have the L35 which is probably very similar and as others have said removing and reattaching the backhoe is not at all difficult.

When I bought mine one of the things the dealer did was demonstrate the removal and reattaching the backhoe. If you bought it new go back to the dealer and ask for a demonstration.

Very easy, let the backhoe boom down & remove the pressure from the pins, remove the pins, work the hoe alittle to bring the top pin mounts away from the machine. Use the out rigger to lift the mount up out of the cradle, pull forward shut the machine down, remove pressure from the hoses & disconnect them. I jut got a used L39 in Nov.09, I didn't need to remove the the BH but just wanted to try it.
