I have read numerous accounts of people hooking up hydraulic lines backwards
and having it cause an accident. :(

Even read about one accident where the person knew he had the lines hooked up backwards but wasn't thinking and push lever instead of pulled

My father always used to have the male/female couplers reversed on one hose so you could not do that :D

And yes it's true you have to set up everything you have for that but once done no more mistakes

Hydraulic Logic:
Pull lever = implement up/retract/right/roll up
Push lever =implement down/extend/left/roll down

And yes if you borrow or rent something it will not conform to this system
so you make a set of Gender changers male/female couplers hooked back to back and put them in line for temporary use
yes they cost money to make up but they save time and oil and frustration
having to change the couplers back and forth

Remember the days before they standardized wiring for trailers you always had to carry a pig tailed plug :(

Just adding my 2 cents

My solution is to get tye wraps in multiple colors and color code your SCV couplers and equipment hoses. Just like many manufactures do with loader hose hookups.

Use a center punch and make the same number of dots on each side of the fitting.

I believe that in general practice, that the male QD is the pressure fitting, and if you follow this guide, then you will always know. If you should get an implement that turns backward, then switch the implement QD's.

That's the way I have always done it. This also means your hyd implement
will be able have its hoses connected together when not in use. Same
for the tractor side if you do not use bulkheads to suppost the fittings.

It is not foolproof, however. My current tractor has a factory AUX valve
with detents, and that is how I power my backhoe. Even if I hook the
hoses up correctly, I could set the lever in the wrong direction. That would
be bad.

Rent hyd implements and mix the oils? Not me. Also, there are lots of
different QAs out there....ISO-A, ISO-B, flatface, etc.
