2006 Silverado and flasher problems

   / 2006 Silverado and flasher problems #11
I've had this problem before. My issue was in the factory trailer plug on the truck. I pulled it apart and found it to be filled with rust.

Replaced it, loaded the new one with dialetric grease and siliconed the wiring harness inlet closed to keep the salt and water out.

Start checking each of the prongs with a test light..Should become obvious.

The converter is normally used when there is no factory plug. Are you going from a 7 round to a 4 flat? Or does your trailer have the 7 pin round? Or did someone tap into the tail light harness?
I would also run a separate ground with a set of jumper cables to verify it's not a grounding problem..
I've seen a bulb on the trailer with a broken filament do things like this as well.
As it was mentioned that gm does fuse everything individually so you should go through all the fuses.

I would look at the 7 round plug on the rear of the truck as mentioned above. Take it apart and inspect. I find many rusted and corroded like mentioned above. Take it to the dealer and make them replace if you find this to be the issue.

Thanks guys,
You are all being most helpful.
I have tried a heavy cable to the truck for earth testing and no difference doing that.
The plugs are 7 pin, with a new socket fitted last week by the dealer and all new wiring, plugs and lamps. I have to come to the conclusion that it is something to do with the way the truck is wired. I am going to start ther investigation with the fuses as suggested. Maybe there is something wierd here I will report back if I find anything.
Testing the circuits by the dealer all show it is working as it should be. The dealer also says so, but if I ask how he knows this, he can not say he has hooked the truck to any trailer. He can only go by what his spec sheets tell him! Frustrating.

This does not get the combination working, so I will ask again if I may, if anyone has any further ideas I will be grateful.

I have seen the 7 to 4 pin adaptors so thanks for reminding me, I need to get one of these for other reasons.
Thanks all.

Try bringing your trailer to the dealer and ask him to hook a new vehicle up to it. If it works correctly he should understand that the problem is within your vehicle.
