I didn't weigh the plate i made for the bucket, but I didn't have any problem picking it up...... so it can't be that heavy. If you have torches, go ahead and do your original bucket...... just be careful with the heat because the bucket is kinda thin and it may warp a little. I just did a search on Ebay, and there are lots of QA plates around a hundred bucks. I feel you can weld the plate on with a 110 mig...... just make sure the steel is clean, clean, clean ! Just crank it up to its highest setting and go to town. Our loaders only lift a thousand pounds or so...... I think it'll do fine. If you are that concerned about welding it on yourself..... bring the bucket and plate over with a couple six packs and we can do it with my welder.

It's probably what I'll wind up doing in the end. I'll just make sure to angle the torch so that slag and debris are blown out and away from the bucket. That way I won't burn through. I can touch up the rest with an angle grinder.
I we lived closer together I'd take you up on that welding/six packs offer!
It's been my experience with Payne's forks and a pallet on, lifting bags of wood pellets that the loader will handle about 800 pounds even. Of course in that scenario the load is further out in front of the lift arms, so capacity will be decreased.
