I have a couple of big hydraulic clutch pumps that I have not been able to find specs on. Is there a way to somehow measure the pumps in a way to determine the cubic inches? That way at least if I know the cubic inches I can at least find a similar pump and guestimate that it should be halfways close to the same GPM.

Fill the pump level with hyd fluid, making sure there is no air trapped inside. and then drain in a measuring cup. Should get you close. Or fill the pump until the output is at the top of the fitting. then turn the shaft one complete revolution, and that will determine the cu in displacement.

I would put a piece of suction hose on the pump. Fill the suction hose with fluid. Depending on how inlet and outlet are positioned to each other you can do different ways....
Point to suction hose up and turn the shaft till fluid just comes out of the outlet port.....now capture all the fluid that comes out when turning the shaft 10 turns.....do not forget to fill more fluid into suction hose when getting low there.....after exactly 10 turn on the shaft you measure the total displace volume and divide with 10.....now you have a pretty darn good estimate on the pump displacement per rev.

According to that then one pump, the smaller of the two being similar to this one High Pressure Hydraulic Clutch Pump — 2.32Cu In. | Pumps | Northern Tool + Equipment . The other one I haven't found one similar yet but it shows that it has about 4 cubic inches of displacement.

depends on RPM's....
4000cui per 1000rpm.......231cui per gallon.......= 17.3 gpm for every 1000rpm....minus internal leakage when pressureized....a gear pump somewhere between 10-15% leakage at max rated pressure...

So what you're saying is, its bigSo potentially I could be looking at 50 gpm at 3k rpm. That is way more than I need for this project.
