Greystone, welcome to TBN. Sorry this had to be your first post. Hope a solution is found, doesn't seem right for this to break.

Do you have a clue as to why it broke...or did you just notice the problem during normal operations:confused:

Thanks John, and yea i wish this hadnt happpened either. the story im hearing
is that there was to much stress on the case because i had the back hoe on.
what boils me is that it appears that they new this was a problem beacuse they have a stronger clutch housing and a prescribed fix for it.

OK, I understand...you were seeking to USE your tractor...hmm... seems like a fatal flaw to me:confused2:

So; you are saying that CNH has issued a bulletin telling dealers that receive a unit with a cracked bellhousing/engine block they need to order the newly revised/updated parts. That sounds like they had quite a few failures and did something about it. Maybe a trip to an attorney that deals in product liability may convince CNH to repair your unit or at least supply the parts for your unit.

NH Dealer tells me that almost all Trans/ bellhousing, failures are the results of after market mounted FEL, improperly installed.....or designed...
Any truth to this??

good morning guys and thanks for all the posts.
well yes i was trying to use my tractor. I do tend to leave the backhoe attachment on because i use it a lot and its a pain to take on and off.
the word i got was that nh sent the dealers a email telling them to
advise their customers not to leave the backhoe on because it would cause
undue stress to the engine trans area causing a problem. i did not get this email. i had talked about the attorney option but am reluctant because i just want a tractor not to enter into litigation. i have heard that if you attack the warranty side of the issue you will lose because its iron tight. but like was mentioned that if you attacked the known defect issue it might help get it fixed. but to be honest i just want a tractor. i have work to be done. and im loosing money. i think it was much simpler when you bought a new holland you knew it was built right here in the good ol usa. but now were dealing with a multi national corp that has its parts made in japan and mexico and china and puts it together in whereever and they have a board meeting to chat about how much money there making and the people at fiat are telling them how to make more. oops i went off the deep end. i just want my tractor back.....mike

My dealer tells me most of the failures are due to 3 Pt hitch mounted backhoes... at least on the compact tractors. Which is why I bought a subframe mount when I finally found a used Woods 7500 backhoe. It was set up for 3 Pt hitch, but the conversion was just a matter of unbolting some 3 pt hitch specific parts fro the backhoe, then bolting on some parts that mate with the subframe.

Greystone - maybe I missed it earlier in this thread. Was your backhoe 3 pt hitch, or subframe mount?

my tractor is a subframe mount. it has a bracket at the rear axle and 2 arms that extend forward to a bracket underthe main loader uprights. and a connection also to the 3 point tensining bar. it was well supported. and all connections were tight. also when i put it on i try to make sure that its
in all brackets squarely and centered on the tractor.
i wish the explaniation for the faliure was as simple as a weak hookup

greystone, Try contacting the consumer protection dept http://ag.state.nv.us/about/contact/contact.htm at your state level with the "known defect" issue. There's 10s of thousands of lawyers that companies won't respond to but a State Attourney General usually isn't on that list. Besides, elected lawyers try harder to please than hired ones. A major casting on a tractor should last 24 years, not just 4. MikeD74T

well, today i talked to the local new holland dealer and he is looking for a tractor to swap me in to. he also offered to sell the parts to me at cost
if i decide to fix it myself. he did agree that the ag might be a good person to talk to but i am not holding my breath. he also told me to look at the bolts and the holes in the clutch housing to see if they are ovaled out. after looking at the dammage i was aware of i found that the clutch housing on both sides of the block is cracked and i figure that the break in the block
is just the straw that broke the camels back. ive also decided to fix it myself
and then make more noise about the quality than nh can stand.
