Diff lock on D series

Is there some sort of locking device on the D series or is it normal to be totally helpless if it is not on level ground or in snow?

My understanding is that there is limited slip but no way to positively lock the axles (such as an ARB Airlocker for 4x4's) on a "D". Unfortunate, but there you go. It is also my understanding (and experience) that Limited Slip only works when you're in 2-wheel-steer. This might imply that the L.S. is only effective on the rear.

Thank goodness the transaxles are one part of my TC that I've not had to deal with.

Now having said all that badness...I've found my TC to be excellent/incredible in snow when I've got chains on all wheels. Many forum participants never even put chains on and apparently do quite well. YMMV.

Transmission is suppose to divert power to the non spinning wheel and thus get the TC out of trouble in those situations. However, like you, I have have noticed that the power diversion is far from 100%. Some other TC posts say the power to the spinning wheel is improved, if the TC is taken out of 4 wheel steer. I have tried turning off 4 wheel steer when stuck on slick ground and it does seem to make a noticeable improvement in overall traction.

This has been my experience as well. You give up maneuverability for increased traction and vice versa.

My service manager (and I believe the manual) indicated that while the 'light' for the Diff Lock will come on, the Diff Lock will not engage if the TC is in all wheel steer on my 'B' series.
