Dealer Woes

Hello all. You may have read some of my other posts regarding a disturbing experience I had with a dealer recently trying to purchase a Kubota tractor. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to detail my experience in order to warn others, and if so, is it ethical to use the dealer's name ? Not sure if there are Forum rules that prohibit that.

There are not too many DC area dealers. if you describe what happened and what city they are in you should be fine.

Why cast a shadow on all those other dealers?
If you have a beef-state it that's what this forum is for, just make sure your facts are straight. The dealer has his own opportunity and access to this forum too and if he isn't reading it shame on him. I purchased a tractor from a dealer mentioned here because of the favorable reports, and if there are some dogs out there I would have wanted to know that too. Gone are the days of someone's word or a handshake-now it's word of mouth.

If your going to tell it, tell it factual and not emotional. You've done told the emotional part. Be precise and just the facts and give their name.

If he is in northern virginia there is only one dealer per city. Byrd in Manassas, Browning in Purcelleville and Gaithersburg Equipment in Gaithersburg MD. But if it is allowed name the dealer.

So, is there some type of rule here that dictates what we can and can not post about dealers?

I personally would like to have information like that available. I purchased my first Kubota from a dealer that had a good reputation until the son took over a year or two before my purchase. I was going by what the dealership use to be. When the business closed, I lost money for repairs and a service call that was not completed. If I had known, I would have bought elsewhere.

Well, I am gonna answer my own question, and not use the forum to trash this dealer. That said, I live in the Warrenton, VA area, and I wanted to use the closest dealer to, or in Warrenton.

If anyone here would like any "advice" on using a dealer in this area, I will be more than glad to share my experience privately, since that is all a part of being a businessman - getting good or bad recommendations from past customers.

I see things like this come up here from time to time. I too have thought twice about listing a dealers name.

So, is there some type of rule here that dictates what we can and can not post about dealers?

I would rather TBN's owner, Muhammad, answer such questions in detail, but basically, the anwer is that you may state factual problems without identifying the dealer.

There are several reasons for such a rule:
1. You just might be posting something that could get you sued for libel or slander, so it's partly to protect you.
2. We like to believe all our members are honest and are posting the absolute truth, but
a. Is it fair to only hear one side of a story without hearing the dealer's side, and
b. What's to keep a dishonest dealer (if such exists) from signing up as an individual member without identifying himself as such, and posting information to harm his competitors, or
c. What's to keep anyone who happens to have a personal, or any other kind of, beef with a dealer from posting erroneous information?
3. In other words, a public forum is just not the place to settle disputes.

Call it like you see it. Accountability is often hard to swallow but is also necessary for the good of the cause.

Public forums are often censored.
