What country would you live in if you could?

OK, I see I'm not getting through to some. If an earth quake hit your country and it sunk and you were forced to have to go to another country where on this planet would you and your family including your dog go? If you stay where you are you will drown in salt water.

I would get on a boat, drain the water out of the land and rebuild the USA. You don't desert your country just because a few bad things happen.

Me? I,m happier than a pig in excrement!
Speaking of, my new best friend, the peacock, keeps living me little deposits all over my patio.
Oh well, it was worth the clean up. I just saw him spread his tail feathers the other day. Magnificent!
VisaVis best place to live, just thought of another.
Croatia has got some of the prettiest and least developed beaches, i've ever seen.

So what's with the peacock? I have only seen them in zoos I think. They have a very eerie call as I remember. Does yours call, or do you need a peahen for encouragement?

The beaches of former Yugoslavia used to be really popular vacation destinations for northern Europeans. The roads south through Switzerland and Austria would get grid locked in summer. Some of the tunnels are narrower than the highways leading to them.

For those of you choosing Switzerland, you need to realize the Swiss people originated from the soldiers in Hannibal's army that couldn't make it over the Alps :D:D:p

Great thread, I've just read it all the way thru. Me, if I were 20 years younger, I'd be off to Australia or NewZealand. While Ive never visited those countries, I have always been intrigued by them. Alas, America, my dear LowCountry of South Carolina is my love of life.

So, if we were devestated by a natural disaster and rendered hopeless, I would opt to still stay here and rebuild my own place. Even messed up by nature, I still don't think the price of 50 beautiful acres elsewhere would pull me away or make me feel more "at home."

Yea, he showed up about a week ago. Young male, haven't seen any others. We used have a flock of about 6-8 that used to live around here, but hadn;t seen them in a while.
I was working in the garage the other day, we he decided
to give a screech behind me, and almost jumped out of my pants.
Another country that has alot going for it is Slovenia
Went there a couple of years ago, because it has a lot of similar attributes as San Diego Co: Mountains, Seacoast,
Is between different cultures(Italian,Austrian,Serbian)
Wine production)Vipava valley, differing climates.

We have several which live here on the ranch. We really enjoy them...
...well that is except for the one male that keeps trying to fight with my car. He sees his reflection in it and thinks it's another male in his territory. He's left some pretty good scratches in the paint.

Very interesting post!

I enjoyed Sweden & --surprise!-- Finland very much when I travelled there in the late 60's and early 70's, but have always wanted to visit Australia and NZ.

Lately, however, I'm itching to go "North" to go home, don't really know why... I find myself really warming up to the Canadian Maritimes. (Watch out, Egon!)

Still have some of this country left to see, however- never been to Florida (don't know if I ever will), and would love to get to WA, OR, & Idaho...and Alaska... before I call it quits.

But, to answer the original question, If I HAD to leave this country and settle somewhere else... guess I'd pick... man, this is hard!... Australia. Or maybe Sweden. Or....:confused2:

...and Alaska...

Take a fellow a few years just to get a good nibble on Alaska!

Only part I've seen is the Southeast Up to Skagway.:)
