Mowing John Deere LX 178 Spark plug Gap?

Can't find my owners manual and am replacing spark plugs, Anybody know the gap size.

Wow, talk about timing. I was just reading the manual tonight after getting it from eBay earlier this week. Looked it up...

Page 74 of my manual:
"LX172, LX176, LX178 and LX188: Gap must be 0.7 mm (0.028 in)."
It goes on to say "If you have a torque wrench, tighten plug to 20 N.m (15 lb-ft).

"LX173: Gap must be 1 mm (0.040 in)." (since I was already on the page)
It continues: "If you have a torque wrench, tighten plud to 40 N.m (30 lb-ft)."

I have been having trouble with my left spark plug fowling on my LX 188. I have a 17 hp kaw. I have been using the NGK plugs but i have not been setting the gap. They come set about .020. I did read this and hope that by widing the gap to .040 this might slow down my problems. I guess the wider the gap the hotter the fire?
