I got the tiller out yesterday to prepare the ground for my expanded garden this year. I had to first mow the area, as it was heavily overgrown with thigh-high weeds and then made about four passes over the area with the tiller. I let it do the work, but had to horse it around at the ends of rows, etc. At the end of five hours I had a 30 X 50 foot area cleared and tilled.

It's been too long since I've done any serious physical work so I'm moving a little slow today but I was sure pleased with how well the BCS 722 worked the soil. Our overnight temperatures are still in the upper 30's so I've got a little more time before by vegetable seedlings will move from my office to the outdoors. This will be a good year. I haven't had a garden this big before and I'm really looking forward to it!

I have a Gravely I use at times. Man I sure don't feel the same the next day now when I use it as I did 35 years ago in the 70's when it was new. Still a great tractor and is a work horse. I think it has aged a bit better than I have, although it is having some transmission issues and I can take Vitamin I!

While using a Gravely rotary plow for a little bit yesterday, I started thinking, "this must be why people use rear tillers behind their tractors." Plus, "I sat too much this winter, and now I'm paying for sitting."

I've got most of my garden in the ground now. I need to go back and put in my drip irrigation to keep my labor at a reasonable level. I've got 18 tomatoes (mix of heriloom and early girl), corn, yellow crook-neck squash, green beans, pickling cucumbers, slicing cucumbers, jalapenos and eggplant. I need to still add some cantalope and bell peppers. Lots of room left over for anything else that catches my eye. :)

Just finished tilling our garden tonight with an old Troy Built Horse tiller. Friday it was lawn...tonight it's a garden. Did about 1/4 of the back yard. The wife's happy at least, 'cause I'm tired.
