Steel Cut for Grader/Planer

Gordon,
I see you had fun cutting the steel but you missed out on some more. For the $240 you payed the weldor you could have found a used AC/DC stick welder and do the job yourself. Then keep the welder and happily plan for the next fun project. Don't get me wrong it looks great, but you gave up on some of the fun. As it was said by a wise man here on this site:"Learning to weld is like money in the bank."

Thanks for the compliments everyone.
My wife thinks it should be orange too.
I primed it today so I'll have to pick a color soon.
I guess I could learn to weld, and would like to,
but I think I would start on something a little simpler. If I bought
an inexpensive stick welder I wonder how long it would be before I thought
I needed a nice MIG unit for $1000 +. I'm good at being able to justify stuff
like that to my self.

Not to sound arrogant but I just came in from fighting with my $6000 dollar welding machine and suitcase mig unit for the better part of the day.:(

Finally got everything to work with the small .023 wire for some ornamental iron work but what a pita. Stick is less trouble to set up for sure.

I for one thought the welder did a good days work for the $240 spent. Never like to discredit the benefits of having a good experienced welder behind the mask.

Here's a picture of a two toned grader blade.

Brian,
Not to disrupt the thread but how do you like the rake in the pic?

It works fair to good for what I bought it for. I go along my fence lines and it pulls the dirt from along the fence and smooths it out pretty good. Rips out whatever weeds happen to be there. Mine is an 8 footer. You can set it several ways, but I usually have it spinning, it seems to move the dirt better than to just drag it.

Gordon, where did you find your blades and what did they set you back? I have an opportunity to bid on 12 - 6ft. mini grader blades in an online auction and was wondering how much to bid. They look new. Anyone else interested in taking some also?

Great looking work Gordon. I can't believe you cut those parts with a Sawzall!

I was going to suggest having the shop that did the welding sand blast it for you prior to priming and painting; but that's a moot point now that you have it primed.
