I have an older Stilh 025 (about 12 years old) Got it stuck in a limb today and dropped it when I cut it out with second saw. Cracked the rear handle housing. Am considering trying to scroung replacement parts off of another 025 (found a few parts on Ebay) but have decided this may be a good excuse to sell this one in a garage sale and purchase a new one. The 025 has been the perfect size, wt, power that I have needed for the past decade. My second saw is a larger one so I need to replace the 025 with with one of very similar power, size and wt. I am currently using an 18" bar.

My question is, of the models currently being produced by Stihl, which one will most closely parell the 025 in power, wt, and size. thanks

The MS250 is the newer version. For just a little more money you could get an MS290, with a tad more power, and not much change in weight.

If it were me, I would fix it and sell it; Stihls tend to keep a alot of thier value for resale.

Personally, I am a fan of the 024/026, and the newer MS260 series. Great saws.

MS 310, according to Stihl "a powerful wood cutting saw"

I have an 025 as well. It has worked well for me. I'm just a homeowner though. The die hards recommended the 026, which is probably fine for someone cutting a lot of wood....but an 025 works for me.

In good shape on the used and 'it runs great' market, probably worth 175-200...depending on the hyperactivity on ebay.

I have had a MS250 for about 2 years now. Its a good saw. I often find myself wishing I had got a bigger one, but yesterday I was using our saw from work. Its a Homelite, probably a $150 saw or less, and it seemed like a toy compared to my Stihl. It had a lot less power, and it wasn't really any lighter or handier.

I was shopping for a new saw last Christmas. Decided on the MS290 over the MS250 for the reason mentioned above. I couldn't be happier with the results-great saw!

I've got an 023, slightly smaller than the 025. The MS 250 is the new version of your saw, if it's any better or worse I don't know.

I will say the 023 gets the call whenever I'm cutting firewood or fence posts. Good power for a small displacement saw, nice balance. I've got a 242 Husky as well, and an 044 Stihl. Both are good saws, but the 023 has a warm place in my heart for some reason.

I had an MS250 and it was a very good saw. When I started cutting a lot more wood I bought and MS390 and sold the MS250 to friend. Only later did I realize that I should have kept that smaller chainsaw too. It has a very good power to weight ratio especially for the price.
