Would you spend the extra on 2660 vs 2360?

Newdeal,

I still consider myself "challenged" when it comes to all things tractor. So take what I say with a grain of salt...

I have a BX2660 and LOVE it. However, on the surface it sounds like the 2360 would more than meet your needs.

When you say you're using it mostly for mowing, are you mowing 1 acre, or 6 acres? The difference in time required between the 54" and 60" decks would pay off at some point, if you have lots of mowing.

The difference in seats isn't worth $800 to me, but I don't use my tractor for mowing. If I were going to spend two or thee hours a week mowing over ten years, I might give it a little more weight.

Also, the debate continues, but I'm also a big believer in the box blade. I am still very much the novice, but BB work has a fast learning curve. Love it.

One of the big reasons I went with the 2660's extra power is that we have hilly terrain and I new there'd be plenty of times I'd be going up and down, clearing trails, hauling logs, etc. As a matter of fact, these pics show what I was doing yesterday...

I can vouch for the 2660 being more than a match for anything I've thrown at it...BB work, brush cutting stuff that was way taller than the tractor, FEL work (which I knew I would do, but was surprised by just HOW MUCH FEL work I've come up with). Not trying to sell you on a 2660, just the reasons I chose one.

One other thing that helped push me to the 2660 was that some of the lower numbered BX's had a problem with "abrupt stopping". Kind of annoying. I did test drive a smaller BX at the time that had that problem. Don't know if that problem has been addressed by Kubota, yet.[/quote]
That was the 50 series and has been fixed in the 60 series. I had bought a BX2350 and considering the aggravation and years I expected to use it I traded it to the BX2660.

my land is very flat, will be mowing about 3 acres and the entire 10 acre lot has almost no trees whatsoever so hill climbing and pulling logs will not be an issue here

Sounding more and more like the 2360 a good bet for you. Unless you think the $ for the seat is worth it, use the extra cash for a box blade, or some other implement.

One other thought. What covers the other seven acres of the lot? The other thing to consider is what you may end up needing a tractor for a few years from now, not just what is obvious now. Will you be planting trees? Tilling or plowing? Cutting brush?

my 10 acres is a perfectly square lot, 660x660. The grass area is on one side of the lot so probobly around 200 feet of frontage with 660 feet of depth. The other 460 feet of frontage is a horse pasture that is pretty much just grown up in dead weeds because we moved into the house last winter and it grew up in hay and we didn't know what to do with it so we just left it. I plan on bush hogging that with my father-in-laws bush hog and hoping that a neighbour wants to cut it for hay for his horses after that so I don't have to worry about it. As Far as trees go there are probobly only 20 trees on the whole lot, two of which are dying austrian pines which I will need to cut down so probobly I would like to plant some trees also to get a bit more shade and wind break as well as some cedar bushes by the road just to provide somewhat of a fence si the lot isn't so open feeling

I agree with most of the others that the 2360 would accomplish the tasks you described. I went with the larger 2660 with the hope of accomplishing what I hadn't thought of yet. Maybe running attachments that would benifit from the extra (pto) horspower (tiller?). In my mind, if the $800 isn't gonna strain you, I would go with the crowd that advocates having more than you need now rather than maybe wish you had more later. As for attachments I would agree the box blade is a huge asset. I've used mine alot more than I thought I would, but seriously give thought to building or buying an after market skid plate as soon as possible after purchase to protect the hst fan and filter. I went with Bro-tek and recommend their product.

the dealer told me that the filter wasn't hanging down on the 2360 like it does on some other models...is that wrong? He specifically said other companies have their filters hanging down but Kubota doesn't

I plan on using my father in laws tiller, he has been using it with a Deere 2210. I am going to assume that the 2360 would pull that tiller as well as the 2210 would or better. I think that the 2360 is the right one for me but as most men I am still drawn to the more power option as I can't upgrade that later

I have a BX2230 and in low it is close to unstoppable except for traction limitations. In high the extra HP would come in handy -- many times I use low since you can stop or slow the ground speed in high when pulling.

I haven't seen the filter on the 2360. On the 2660 though the filter is exposed without a skid plate. It doesn't actually hang down but is open to sticks or other unknown objects being able to reach through the crossmembers for potential damage. It's very apparent when you look at it so I would ask the dealer to point it out to you. Although the filter is exposed it is an easily changed item if damaged as long as you're aware right away before running too long if the the oil's drained. The more easily damaged is the hst fan which is either an expensive repair if done by a dealer or an extensive job if done at home. Both situations are prevented by the installation of skid plates.

Hmmm interesting, isn't it? The things sales people say to compare their models as being better than others. Can't read his mind about what "hanging down" might mean, but it couldn't be located much lower!!! The hydro filter on all the BXs are in the same place and are somewhat vulnerable to rocks. My greater concern, if using a BX in rough country would be the plastic HST fan.
