If you didn't click on the link, what caused you to spend most of the day dealing with the issue?

The first thing I did was to call the customer service number on the latest bank statement. That got me through to their fraud prevention people. They started by first disabling online access. Then we verified recent activity and account balances. I was then instructed to update my virus software and do a complete scan on my computer and they gave me a number to call them back to reset my user info and password. Let's just say I have too much to lose to not be super careful and get this right so I drove to the nearest Wells Fargo bank and verified that the phone numbers that I called and the number that I was given to call back were legitimate Wells Fargo numbers. They were legitimate numbers. When I got back the scan was still running and I decided to do the same with my laptop and update virus software and run a complete scan on that computer also. When the computers were all cleaned up I called Well Fargo back and reset user and password. Then because I have one account the other people have access to I contacted them and gave them instructions on what to do based upon all that I had just learned.

Sounds like you did the right thing so don't let all the naysayers on this board tell you different. I keep multiple email accounts and use only the most private ones for my on-line banking, I get very little spam.

I was getting them on my work e-mail from a bank where I don't have an account. The scary one was when I got a similar text message from my bank wanting me to call an 800 number.

Your bank will never use e-mail or text messages...
