DOT and non comercial traffic

Our DOT seem to zero in on one group for a year or so then on to the next. Two years ago it was the lawn guys. They were nailing them for no brakes or no brake-away on the trailers. They would slap them with a fine and 10 days order to fix. I was busy as could be. Next it was Semi's again. This year it seems to be dump trucks.

No matter what you think about the DOT police, they are there for a reason. In spite of all of the "checks and balances", unsafe people with unsafe rigs still get by. It could be your family that gets run down so stop and think about it for a minute or so.

Having been through level one inspections, yes it did cost me a half an hour but then when I was driving, I chose to work for companies that allowed for and paid me for my time.

The last company I drove for paid well and had good equipment yet you would not believe the number of drivers that got nailed for a "hot" urine test.

Lastly, I whole heartedly agree that the RV crowd is given too much leeway but we do not want to get political here so I will let that one go.

I'd bet on 'cargo security', IE tie down.

IMHO, commercial or not, just as dangerous and especially pipes that can roll off easily.
They need not only tie downs but also should be blocked so as not to roll.

We await your 'horses mouth' report.

sure they are. I work for a company with many heavy vehicles..

what I'm wondering is why they have such selective enforcement. I like rules.. I just want them to apply evenly...

I know when they show up to stick your tanks, they hit everything diesel with a tag on it in the shop yard... personal, comercial.. customers .. everybody...

I'm not disputing the fact the dot man COULD do what he did.. it's just not what I normally see here.

must be a new revenue enforcement campaign.. er.. I mean safety campaign.. :)

they recently started a "zero tollarnce" enforcment campaing <cough revenue campagin> on the local bypass routes around town (all the 2xx 3xx numbered interstates around town) seems they are running short on revinue so they decided to start writeing tickets for 2-3mph over

Do the write tickets to themselves?

In Baltimore, Md. they gave the Transit Buses an exception to the rules.. They don't require them to carry the Safety Triangles, used when there is a break down.... It must be safer for a broke down bus then a truck.... Go figure..
