Wow.. I see this this is dragging on.

the wifes in thialand right now and scheduled to leave late tonight.. AFAIK there is a layover in japan and then on to LAX

anyone know if this is in the route that is being delayed by the ash cloud?

I'm pretty sure that the ash cloud is only affecting European flights (to and from). Flights over the Pacific ocean should be O.K.. Hope she has a good trip, that must be one long flight.

Asian flights to/from US are OK. But if you gotta be stuck, Thailand would be my choice!!

only reason I asked is I was reading the paper this am and noticed some flights out of japan are delayed.. but those must be flights to european areas.. and the delay is not on the japanese side.

My Daughter and SIL are "stuck" in Rome until tomorrow. Their flight back to England was cancelled. They're taking a train tomorrow to Paris and then from there it's another train and then a ferry ride across the channel. They're due to fly back to the states on Friday. Don't know if that's going to be possible. We're praying for clear skies.:thumbsup: They've been in Europe since Jan. 20 "studying" history.

Flights to and from Europe to North america are delayed or cancelled. I have a buddy stuck in France - on business - and if he is not on a flight by Thursday and he and other execs are considering hiring a charter plane to get home. It's confusing because some countries (Switzerland) are opening air space while others are not and they are neighbors.

They appears to be a reluctance on the airlines to fly a more southern route due to their cost increase - this is my theory - they fly the Northern route due to the jet stream and better fuel economy...

BBC this morning was reporting a fresh erruption and more dust.

Wind still blowing dust SE over Northern Europe - so Spain is in the clear, although as others said Switzerland is still flying too. Maybe the poster whose family are heading up to UK should tell them to turn round and go south?

Geneva shows flights to NA taking off - A駻oport International de Gen钁e - gva.ch - Voyageurs (having said that, I see Washington flight is cancelled, though Montreal arrived)

I have friends stuck in the middle east since the flights connect through Europe -- luckily it is at the end of their trip so they just booked another trip locally that somebody from North America could not make!
