Comparing the $30,000 Mustang to a Porsche that cost nearly three times as much just shows you how bright you are.
It was an obvious exaggeration of my point that sales numbers mean NOTHING when it comes to overall quality and value of a vehicle. I forgot this thread is full of Ford owners so I should have put it in simpler terms.

I will maintain the old truck I have. You big spenders get out your wallet and pay 60 grand for that new unproven diesel with the blue oval. Sounds like alot of the home buyers that bought way over their head and now are crying as the forclosures began. There are quite a few repops on the back lots now...... and they were miles cheaper than the big priced trucks. If anyone hasn't noticed... the economy isn't jumping by 5 % each year.

I've said it before and I'll say it again with what these trucks cost nowadays I don't understand how anyone can be strictly brand loyal. I've personally had great luck with GM trucks, so I tend to look to them first. However I'm looking at what each company has to offer if I do decide to upgrade trucks either in the near future or in a couple of years. I've already tested a Ford Super Duty and liked it a lot. I will test out a Chevy too, both a 2010 and a 2011 when they come out, maybe I'll like that even better who knows. I do still prefer the interior layout of the GM's to the super duty, although the super duty did seem to have a little more space, although frankly I've never found my truck lacking in space. Lastly, I'm even going to test out the Dodge trucks, even though I've personally seen lots of problems in the older transmissions and I am disappointed that the Cummins is not using the urea injection which seems to directly increase the fuel efficiency. With the cost of trucks nowadays, one certainly cannot afford to either totally forget their past experiences with certain trucks nor can someone be totally brand loyal.

Frankly, when people blindly defend their favorite brand it gets counter productive after a while. And that goes for the GM guys, the Mopar fans and the Ford fans equally. Personally, I don't put a lot of credence in sales numbers as far as who makes the best truck. A lot of trucks get purchased based on lowest price, especially fleet vehicles and Ford's fleet program is way better than any of the other auto makers. I believe that that fact can account for a lot of the sales numbers. Sure it's a nice award to be able to claim and if I was the sales leader you can bet I'd brag about it too, but I find that lots of consumers make very stupid decisions so consumption alone doesn't factor into my thought process much. Secondly when GM claims highest resale value on their trucks that seems distracting to me as well, as the difference in trade values or resale values on any of the trucks seems pretty darn close to me, at least in this area. Ultimately most of the claims that car companies make nowadays are more about marketing than they are about substantive differences.

Lastly, I feel I can somewhat fairly evaluate all the big 3 brands because I drive them all. My personal truck is a Chevy with the 5.3 liter. My government issued take home vehicle is a Dodge Durango with the Hemi. My last g-ride was an Expedition with the 5.4 liter. I've driven Crown Vic police cars and I had an explorer as a take home car when I was assistant fire chief of my volunteer fire department. When I was superintendent of water and sewer, before going into law enforcement I had a GMC issued to me with the 6.0 Liter. I drive my uncle's 2000 Dodge with Cummins from time to time as well. So ultimately I feel like I can speak frankly about all the big 3's products. I wouldn't consider myself to be overly abusive of any of my vehicles, nor would I say that I routinely use them to their limits. I would say that if they are properly maintained that I've had pretty good luck with every car or truck that I 've ever owned or been assigned. I honestly believe that each auto maker offers some advantages and disadvantages over the others and I feel that if price was no object I'd be happy to own any of them based upon my experiences. And just as a last point to prove that I'm not blindly brand loyal I think that GM's current fix for the Duramax air intake problem is ridiculous and why I wouldn't buy a 2010 Duramax and would wait for the 2011 with its new air intake. To have to change airboxes depending on the season or else risking over heating or stalling out due to snow clogging is ridiculous and a serious design flaw. So I can see the strengths and weaknesses of all the big 3 including the brand that I own.

With that many jobs you should be able to sustain the economy by purchasing one of each.:laughing::laughing:

Thankfully I'm down to one job now, well I do still volunteer at the firehouse when I have the time, but I'm just a hose monkey now and not a chief anymore. I will say that it took a while to figure out exactly where I wanted to be, and then it took a while to actually get there. Now that I'm at where I want to be though, I can honestly say that I wouldn't make any changes. The experiences obtained from each of my jobs have added value in some form or another. Besides, lots of federal agents can say that they worked as a uniformed police officer before going fed, but how many can say that they designed chemical process improvements for GE as a process engineer, worked on nuclear reactors for DoD, managed a water and sewer system for a municipality AND worked as a uniformed police officer before becoming a fed? And my co-workers never let me live my early career indecisiveness down either.

As for the trucks, I have owned GM and Ford trucks, but never a Dodge. I do put more miles on my current government car though (Dodge Durango) than both my truck and my wife's car put together and I'm in no rush to get another vehicle. Actually, aside from brakes, tires, oil changes and a front wheel bearing the government hasn't put any money in the Durango either. I haven't put any money into my last 3 personal cars either aside from routine maintenance items like oil changes and tires. Admittedly though I am not the best investor when it comes to vehicles. My wife and I both like that new car smell and even though new cars are a horrible investment we both buy new ones every 4 or 5 years.

Oh and don't get my wife going about me stimulating the economy either. She's confident that between a new SUV for her, a new Truck for me, a new ATV for me, a used snowmobile which got traded towards a new snowmobile for me, then the tractor and now a trailer to haul it with all since 2008 that we've done our part to stimulate the economy. ;) :)

Soo...the consumer buys what the company wants ...and not what they want?? Year after year??
Comparing porsche sales to mustang sales??
Blaming 2 failed transmissions on the operator??

Here's the real question.... Is it dimensia, lunacy, or does he just enjoy infecting these threads like a bad computer virus.....

It's all the above, but the hilarious part is that he doesn't get it, never will!:laughing::laughing:

I just back from Scout Expo at Beale AFB. One of the adult leaders there, had an absolutely gorgeous 1965 Ford F100. All stock, although rebuilt and painted a while back.

The new trucks have the technology, power, leather, creature comforts.

But, I sure wish the new ones were even half as cool looking as that 60's era body style :D

Get an X-plan PIN (go to the ordering forum on the Dieselstop website and ask - someone will give you one). I just ordered an F350 crewcab, King Ranch, dually, 4x4, diesel, camper package, 5th wheel prep, bedliner, etc. MSRP was $63.4K, with X-plan it is about $56.8K.
i'm still not ready to buy yet, maybe around August or September. Anyway Yesterday i went back to the dealer ship with my drivers license in hand (didn't have it last time) any way got to drive it with my wife and we both like it. We drove an FX4 4x4, lariat, crew cab, 6.7, with it had all the bells and whistles sticker was 59k and after talking with the sales man and sales manager we got down to 53k. There not so much wiggle room on them right now. I told the sales man that we were still a few months from buying but if he would do 49k i'd buy today. He smiled and told me as much as he would like to make the sale he can't go any lower than 53k so thats where we stand.
I'm going to try and get the x-plan number you were talking about and see where that gets me. if it gets me that low i will open up the wallet and own a new truck.
Buy the way the truck did feel nice, and was a lot of fun to drive.
