I may have missed it here or something. Help me understand something-Are all manufacturers getting away from manual shift transmissions? Can you special order them?
sad to say but you can't get a manual in the new super duty, not even on the XL line. I don't know for sure about the other two players but i think Chevy did away with them a long time ago, and i think you can still get one with dodge. . . but not sure.

No manual for Ford or GM. Dodge still has one but I bet its on the way out also. If you have not driven a late model truck, say 2004 or newer with a Ford Torque Shift or a GM Allison they are terrific. The Dodge tranny left a lot to be desired upto about 2008 or so when they got the Asian or whatever its called and I hear its a winner also.

Actually the 5 speed 54RFE tranny that has been in the RAM since 2003 has proven itself to be very reliable. Mostly unchanged since 2003 also.

I bet Dodge will never get rid of the manual shift tranny, it's obviously selling. The difference is Dodge builds the trucks people want and not what the bean counters tell them to.
The 2011 RAM's still have a 6-speed manual option.

Well my Ram Hemi 2500 had 2 trannys in it before 60K. So that leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. I know tons of others who have also had Dodge truck Auto Trannys with issues like our work Dakota. I have owned 20 plus vehicles and these are the only 2 tranny issues I have had along with a transfer case in a Blazer.

Like I said, that's what happens when the bean counters tell you which truck to make instead of the consumers. You sell more but in the end, the consumer buys what the company wants and not what they want. It's funny how many people think sales numbers have anything to do with how good something is.
The Mustang outsells the Porsche Carrera quite a bit too but I would take the Porsche any day.

Anyone that can kill a tranny twice in 60k can not blame the truck these days, it's obviously the "nut behind the wheel". :D
98k miles on my 03 with the 54RFE auto tranny and it hasn't given me any problems. More than half those miles are towing and we have hills up here, no flat land for miles...

Sorry to lob this in there, but I feel compelled. Ford is the only one of the (formerly) big three not owned by the government and the unions.

God bless America

resume your argument:)

Funny how I have never had as much as a hiccup out of the nearly dozen Fords or the Honda, Nissan, Toyota, even GM.

Comparing the $30,000 Mustang to a Porsche that cost nearly three times as much just shows you how bright you are.:D Its like comparing a 1/2 ton truck to a Semi.

Real sharp!

Soo...the consumer buys what the company wants ...and not what they want?? Year after year??
Comparing porsche sales to mustang sales??
Blaming 2 failed transmissions on the operator??

Here's the real question.... Is it dimensia, lunacy, or does he just enjoy infecting these threads like a bad computer virus.....
